Matt Damon Confessed His Wife Was Crushing On Ben Affleck Before Meeting Him & Joked She ‘Got the Wrong One’

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have long been celebrated as one of Hollywood’s most enduring friendships, a bond that began well before their shared success in “Good Will Hunting.” Beyond awards, collaborations, and decades of public admiration, their connection has also produced moments of humor that feel strikingly relatable. One such moment involved Damon’s wife, Luciana Barroso, and an unexpected confession tied to the iconic 1997 film.

Damon, born in 1970, and Affleck, born in 1972, first captured global attention with “Good Will Hunting,” a movie that cemented their creative partnership and cultural impact. Long before Barroso and Damon crossed paths, she had already seen the film, forming an opinion that would later resurface in a lighthearted but memorable way. Damon and Barroso eventually met in Miami in 2003 while he was filming “Stuck on You,” and they married in December 2005. Together, they share four daughters: Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella.

Their story highlights how fame, friendship, and personal relationships often intersect in unexpected ways. It also underscores how shared histories – whether through film, friendships, or fleeting impressions – can add layers of meaning to relationships formed years later. The anecdote does not diminish the strength of Damon and Barroso’s marriage; instead, it reflects the humor and openness that often define lasting partnerships.

By revisiting this story, Damon and Affleck offered a glimpse into their dynamic beyond the screen, revealing how mutual respect, laughter, and time shape both friendships and marriages in the public eye.

On Jan. 12, 2026, Damon appeared alongside Affleck on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” while promoting their Netflix film “The Rip.” During the conversation, Damon recalled a moment that had stayed with him since the early days of his relationship with Barroso.

As he explained, the revelation emerged months after they began dating, sparked by a casual discussion involving Barroso’s longtime friend.

“After we'd been together for a little while, probably a few months, she admitted that – I think I met her best friend from high school and it came out that the two of them went and saw ‘Good Will Hunting’ together and her best friend thought I was the cute one and (Barroso) thought Ben was the cute one.”

“This is f---ing completely true,” Damon said, adding, “So she admitted to me... I’m like ‘You got the wrong one?’”

He then added that she had “told me that 23 years ago.”

Affleck responded with humor of his own, noting that he now works closely with both Damon and Barroso. She serves as a producer on “The Rip” and “Animals,” a film Affleck is directing. He joked:

“She’s a great producer and a really good friend and yeah, I never got that vibe from her.”

Damon quickly added: “Finally she met him and all that went away.”

The conversation also touched on the night Damon and Barroso first met, with Damon recalling only her presence.

“I couldn’t remember who I was with ’cause all I remembered was her,” he said. Affleck teased him in response, saying, “But also, you were hammered, and it’s a little vague.”

Despite the jokes, Affleck offered a sincere reflection on their relationship, calling it “a really gorgeous marriage and friendship.” The exchange illustrated how humor, admiration, and shared history continue to define the bond between all three.
