Massive Waves Caught On Camera Lashing At Side Of Enormous Cruise Ship

When you're traveling aboard a mighty cruise ship, you're always hoping for clear blue skies and calm seas, but something changed the weather pattern one day. Passengers on the "Anthem Of The Seas" cruise ship were in for a frightening ride. Thankfully, some had their cameras rolling to record the, hopefully, once-in-a-lifetime harrowing experience.

Imagine for a moment that you're on board when a powerful storm picks up speed, one featuring 120 MPH winds and waves crashing more than 30 feet high. Suddenly, that enormous cruise ship is being tossed about like a rowboat by the storm's unrelenting vigor. Massive waves are pounding the sides of the cruise ship, and it's absolutely scary.

Stephen J. Burke works on "The Anthem Of The Seas" and performs as a musician to delight guests. He and his mates were blown away by the mammoth waves banging across the ship's windows, so they recorded the event, and it went viral with more than 11.5 million views on YouTube. Burke had never seen the sea so angry, and his video is a must-see for all.

The young men were extremely nervous because their rooms were located "underwater, under the third floor." They were afraid of the huge vessel sinking, but Professor Richard Burke of New York's Maritime College says the ship would eventually right itself. In the meantime, Burke explained that a ship heeling more than 20 degrees would make you feel unbalanced on your feet, and lots of equipment and furniture could go flying around.

The young men recorded the musician trying to walk down the hall while the ship was listing. It looked rather comical, and they were laughing. Harry Bolton, a training captain from California's Maritime Academy, told CNN that cruise ships avoid these kinds of storms. He says it was a rare occurrence and cool to see caught on camera.

If you can handle it, check out this rocky cruise ship ride, and let your friends enjoy it too.
