Martha Stewart Turns Heads With Playful Rose-Gold Hair Transformation at 85

Martha Stewart has built a career around knowing when a classic works — and when it is time to refresh it. The lifestyle entrepreneur marked her 85th birthday on August 3, 2026, and celebrated the milestone with a beauty transformation that gave her familiar blond bob a soft rose-gold finish.

Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton revealed the look on Instagram, showing Stewart with warm pink tones blended through her signature hairstyle. “Rose gold …. It’s a good thing 🌹✨,” he captioned the post, borrowing one of Stewart’s best-known phrases.

According to People, Appleton created the color with Schwarzkopf Professional products, adding highlights before applying a temporary rose-gold gloss. The finish was designed to create a sheer pink effect with golden undertones rather than an opaque or dramatic color change. Because the gloss is temporary, the look allows Stewart to experiment without permanently abandoning the blond shade associated with her public image.

The transformation also fits a wider pattern in Stewart’s approach to style. She has experimented with darker shades, including a “mocha mousse” color, while continuing to return to the polished bob that has become one of her trademarks.

Stewart’s willingness to change her appearance has long gone hand in hand with her broader philosophy about aging. In a 2023 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit interview, she summed up that attitude with a line that feels especially fitting for the rose-gold makeover: “When you’re through changing, you’re through.”

The response to the color underscored why the change stood out: it was unexpected without feeling like a complete reinvention. Appleton preserved the shape and sophistication of Stewart’s usual hairstyle, while the warmer tone added a playful element that matched the celebratory spirit surrounding her 85th year.

Stewart’s hair transformation arrived in the same year she spoke openly about aging, beauty and cosmetic treatments. In an interview with People published around her 85th birthday, she said she does not focus heavily on age and described it as “just a number.”

She also addressed speculation about cosmetic surgery. Stewart said she has never had plastic surgery, but she has been candid about using non-surgical treatments. She told People that she uses “a little bit of fillers” and sees New York dermatologist Dr. Dan Belkin for periodic touch-ups. Earlier discussions of her routine have also included treatments such as Botox and ultrasound-based skin tightening.

That distinction is important. Stewart does not present her appearance as the result of avoiding all cosmetic intervention. Instead, she has described a maintenance-focused routine that combines professional treatments with skincare, exercise and everyday health habits.

Stewart has credited genetics, exercise, healthy eating and not smoking with helping her stay well. She has also spoken about facial exercises, facials and skincare as part of her routine. Those habits sit alongside a public image that has continued to evolve well beyond the home-and-entertaining expertise that first made her famous.

In 2023, at age 81, Stewart became the oldest cover model in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit history. The milestone reflected a message she has repeatedly emphasized: age does not have to set the boundaries for style, ambition or visibility.

Her rose-gold hair makes the same point in a lighter way. The makeover is playful, polished and temporary — a small change that still feels unmistakably Martha Stewart.

That balance may be part of why the look resonated. Rather than framing aging as something to disguise, Stewart’s comments emphasize upkeep, curiosity and experimentation. The result is less about appearing younger than about making choices that feel expressive and her own.
