Martha Stewart has been a prevalent figure in the home and lifestyle industry as she has been successful in multiple professions and endeavors over the course of her life. Born as Martha Helen Kostyra on Aug. 3, 1941, Martha grew up in New Jersey. Her family is of Polish descent, and she was raised Catholic. 

At the age of 3, the family moved from Jersey City, New Jersey, to Nutley, New Jersey, where she later worked as a babysitter for many of the players of the New York Yankees, such as Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Gil McDougald.

As she got a little older, Martha began modeling. She was featured in a television commercial for Unilever, a British company known for its food, energy drinks, cleaning products, and beauty products. She also continued to pick up small campaigns for Chanel here and there throughout her time at Barnard College of Columbia University.

Martha talked about her days as a model during an interview with People in November 2020, revealing: “I knew that I could model, I knew I could pose for pictures, but I was not sexy, and I was not provocative.”

In 1961, she married Andrew Stewart. They had one child, daughter Alexis Stewart, before divorcing in 1990.

Martha has hosted television shows, written for many magazines and newspapers, and authored cookbooks that quickly became bestsellers. 

Despite her long-lasting career, Martha has been known to shock people with her adventurous ways every now and then. 

In her 80s, she does not act like a typical woman her age and has continued to showcase her sweet yet sultry personality while posting thirst traps to her Instagram account. 

In 2020, Martha posted a photo of herself puckering up her lips alluringly for the camera while sitting in a swimming pool. Unsurprisingly, the snap went viral. Her selfies have swept social media users off their feet as she has continued to shock people with seductive photographs.

In May 2023, at 81 years old, she turned the heat up by becoming the oldest Sports Illustrated cover model and defying age stereotypes.

In one photo in the magazine’s feature, Martha exuded effortless elegance while lounging on a plush sofa, surrounded by lush greenery and tasteful decor, embodying a sense of relaxed glamour. 

Another photo featured her in the water, clad in a chic silver one-piece and oversized sunglasses, her playful demeanor radiating joy and vitality. 

A striking third image showcased her in a bold red dress, confidently posing against a natural stone backdrop, complete with a radiant smile.

Martha’s Sports Illustrated cover sparked a flurry of online reactions, ranging from admiration to harsh criticism regarding her appearance and the photoshoot’s presentation. On Instagram, critics didn’t hold back.

“Grow up... you look absurd,” one user snapped, while another harshly commented on her physique, saying: “Those are chicken legs.”

On Facebook, the negativity continued, with one commenter stating: “OMG, give it up, old woman. I can’t stand her.”

“Oh this is ridiculous. The airbrushing makes her look 30 years old. If she’s so proud of what she looks like at 81 years old, then good god show your real face!” another user said in disbelief. 

Her styling choices also came under fire, with one person quipping:

Despite the backlash, Martha’s personal life tells a heartwarming story of family connection as hers remains at the heart of her life, especially her cherished time with grandchildren Jude and Truman Stewart. 

Known for her flair for hosting, Martha throws themed birthday parties and festive gatherings at her cherished farm, creating lasting memories with her loved ones. The farm is truly a playground for her grandchildren, who enjoy picking vegetables and feeding animals. 

In 2020, she revealed that her grandchildren consider their time working on the farm “perhaps the best day so far.” Martha’s estate in Katonah, New York – often called “Bedford Farm” or “Cantitoe Corners” – has been her sanctuary since 2000. 

She has transformed this picturesque property into a retreat, adding features like a horse farm, guesthouses, greenhouses, flower gardens, and a chef’s kitchen, seamlessly blending rustic charm with modern luxury.
