Marie Osmond is best known for her work as a singer, actress and talk show host. She is part of the famous family known as the Osmonds, and has shown a sheer amount of talent in every avenue she’s pursued. Marie first appeared on stage when she was only four years old, and eventually went on to make a real name for herself, finding success both with her family and on her own.
Born Oct. 13, 1959, Marie grew up in Utah and was the eighth out of nine children in her family. She was also the only daughter in the large bunch. She was never officially part of her family’s singing group, but still found success in the music industry as a solo country singer in the 1970s and 1980s. Along with fame on her own, she also found fame with her brother Donny Osmond as they hosted the TV variety show titled “Donny & Marie” together from 1976 to 1979.
Marie is a solo music artist and is best known for her country-pop hit “Paper Roses.” She was originally encouraged to record her own album by her mother, and both the album and lead single went gold. “Paper Roses” also reached number one on the country music charts and number 5 on Billboard’s pop music list. The song “In My Little Corner of the World” made it into the top 40 on the country charts.
Marie has had an interesting love life, having married three times – twice to the same man! She is also a loving mother and grandmother to a brood of children and grandkids. However, despite her fame and wealth, Marie has been open about not giving her children any handouts. Read on to find out the reasons behind her debatable decision.

Marie’s first marriage was to Stephen Craig in 1982, but they divorced three years later. She then wed Brian Blosil in 1986, but it was not meant to be.
A definitive sign that it was time to separate came after the couple’s house caught fire in 2005. “It was probably one of the most freeing things that ever happened to me,” Marie explained. “Because I realized this home I had created was a facade to a marriage that wasn’t happy for 20 years. I really believe it was God – they say, ‘The burning within.’ So sometimes these things happen to wake us up.”
After her marriage to Blosil was over, the singer had a different outlook on her past relationship with her first husband. “The thing about a second marriage is that you realize things you thought were so important, aren’t,” Marie remarked. “I love being with my husband. He is the sweetest man I know. He lives to serve and really listens to people’s needs.” The pair remarried in 2011 and haven’t looked back since.
Marie has a total of eight children and even more grandchildren. Her children are Stephen, Jessica, Rachael, Brandon, Brianna, Matthew, Abigail, and the late Michael Blosil. Michael passed away in February 2010 at the age of 18 by apparent suicide after struggling with mental health issues.
Marie made headlines in February 2020 when she declared on “The Talk” she would not give her children any inheritance upon her passing and instead use her well-earned money to live a comfortable life with her husband or give it to charity.
“You do a great disservice to your children to just hand them a fortune because you take away the one most important gift you can give your children, and that’s the ability to work,” she said.

She elaborated on “The Talk” that she had seen what money can do to those who have it, but haven’t directly earned it.
“You see it a lot in rich families where the kids, they don’t know what to do and so they get in trouble. Let them be proud of what they make. I’m going to give mine to my charity,” she said.
She reiterated her stance again to Us Weekly in January 2023, saying, “Honestly, why would you enable your child to not try to be something? I don’t know anybody who becomes anything if they’re just handed money.”
She continued, “To me, the greatest gift you can give your child is a passion to search out who they are inside and to work,” adding she believed giving them an inheritance would only “breed laziness and entitlement.”
“I worked hard and I’m gonna spend it all and have fun with my husband,” she declared.
However, she said this didn’t mean she doesn’t help her children out financially at all, revealing if “they need help (buying) a car or something, (I will pitch in).”
While her children will have to keep working hard at fulfilling their passions, Marie isn’t at all abashed about being a generous grandmother.
“I just feel like this is the best time of our lives as women. Now I’m a grandma and I get to just spoil my grandkids,” she said. “I don’t have to raise them. Good luck. It’s fun. … I feel like I have the best life.”
