Recently, 100-year-old Romay Davis celebrated her birthday in style at an unconventional venue.

The current supermarket employee and former model served in World War II, and she has also worked in real estate, fashion design, painting and landscaping. According to local media WBTV, her 100th birthday was celebrated at her present place of employment, which is a Winn-Dixie grocery store in Montgomery, Alabama.

“Look at her. She’s a complete inspiration to us all," manager Frankie Hodges told Montgomery Advisor. "We get up and say, ‘Oh, my back hurts.’ But she gets up and does it every day.”

She arrived to her workplace in a posh Rolls Royce and was showered with confetti. A brass band welcomed her with upbeat music, causing Davis to break into dance under a balloon archway.

Romay was ushered to festive seating near a sign that read, “Romay Davis Cheers to 100 years.”

In addition to this fanfare, she was awarded a year of free groceries from Winn-Dixie, a three-tier cake and thoughtful presents. The Mayor of Montgomery even declared the day Romay Davis Day.

As WBTC reported, Davis gushed, “I just want to say thank you. May God bless every single one of you. I love you all, and I was so surprised.” She jokingly added, “I don’t know if I can function for the next two or three days. Thank you.”

Romay, who still drives herself to work, shows no signs of wanting to retire. She works 20 hours, five days per week.

Bobby Goodwin, the Winn-Dixie store manager, told the Montgomery Advertiser, “It’s unreal. She’s doing more work than a 25-year-old. She enjoys coming to work. If she’s going to be a few minutes late, she’s calling.”

Her close friend Stacia Robinson has said that Davis, who earned a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo in her 70s, has recently taken up sharpshooting.

According to ABC News, Anthony Hucker, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, Winn-Dixie’s parent company, said, “As we celebrate Ms. Romay, we are moved by her unwavering dedication and strong work ethic, which inspires others to be their best.”
