Although the odds of winning the lottery are incredibly low, people still enjoy imagining the event. It's a popular conversation topic that can reveal a lot about an individual. Everybody has different ideas about how to spend the money.

While some people would buy an island villa in the Carribean, others would start their own business or build an invention. The kindest people decide to spend the money on what somebody else wants.

This selfless act came true for one lottery winner in North Carolina.

Richard Beare lives in Charlotte North Carolina. According to WSET, he won a considerable amount of money from playing the lottery in mid-March. Unfortunately, it would be difficult for Richard to spend that amount of money with the time that he has left.

Richard has been fighting stage 4 liver cancer for a few weeks and the diagnosis doesn't look good.

NC Education Lottery reported that Richard hadn't gambled much in the past. According to the lottery winner, he only stopped because his wife was interested in the Powerball jackpot.

The prize was already very high. Richard and his wife ended up buying four tickets. They sat in their car and started to match the numbers to see if their cards were winners.

After the first three tickets didn't yield any results, Richard started to give up hope. After all, nobody really expects to win anything from playing the lottery. The chances of winning something are usually exciting enough.

However, Richard was blown away when all of the numbers on the fourth ticket were exact matches.

He turned to his wife and asked what the matching numbers meant.

His wife explained that the matching numbers mean that the ticket earns a prize. Richard did have a winning ticket and the corresponding prize was worth $250,000.

Richard's wife was in utter shock. She couldn't stop looking at her husband and the ticket.

Despite the exciting win, Richard felt nervous carrying the valuable ticket in his car. Although the couple hadn't won the grand prize, their earnings were still considerable. After taxes were removed, Richard was given $176,876.

Everyone started wondering what Richard would do with the money. In light of his cancer diagnosis, Richard decided to spend the money on a gift for his wife. Richard decided to take his wife to Italy. As a descendent from Italian immigrants, she has always wanted to visit.

Now that Richard has the funds to make this trip a reality, he decided to make it happen.
