Every now and then we all need a reminder of why people can be so great.

On January 23, Anthony Maggert was driving along Washington, DC's beltway interstate when he noticed a man on the side of the road changing a tire.

Upon closer inspection, he noticed that the man looked an awful lot like Colin Powell.

The 42-year-old Maggert decided to stop to see if his hunch was right and if the man needed help. Sure enough, it was General Powell.

Maggert happens to be a disabled veteran who lost his leg while serving in Afghanistan. The 23-year veteran of the military served three tours in Iraq and also two more in Afghanistan.

While in Afghanistan, Maggert contracted a flesh-eating bacterial infection that led to the amputation of his leg.

After changing the tire, Powell posed for a picture with Maggert before the two men went their separate ways. Maggert even sent Powell a message later that night telling the general how much the encounter meant to him.

Powell was so touched by the message that he posted the story on his own Facebook.

Powell echoed what so many of us already know. In times of internal division in the country, it is extremely reassuring to see people take care of each other.

Now you can see these touching pictures for yourself. After you have had the chance to look at these reassuring photos, be sure to spread the joy to everyone that you know.
