Man Wakes Up To Find A Random Dog In His Living Room

At two in the morning on a December Saturday, a man named Jack Jokinen woke up to find a dog in his house.

Jack already had a dog named George. This dog was a stranger. She was also soaking wet, malnourished, and scared. Jack and his wife were extremely confused. The doors were shut and locked, so how did the dog get inside?

Security Cameras Tell the Story

“The first thing I think is, ‘There has to be someone in our house,’” Jokinen told the Dodo. “So I do a security sweep, making sure there’s no one hiding in closets or anything like that. And when I finish, I think, ‘How did this happen? A magical puppy?’”

To solve the mystery, Jack checked the security cameras. According to the footage, he didn't close the front door before he went to bed. It was storming, and the wind blew the door open.

Welcoming a New Family Member

This turned out to be very lucky for a poor dog that was wandering down the street. The dog was starving and walking on only three legs. She was looking for a dry place to warm up, and a very welcoming door was wide open. After a brief moment of hesitation, she went inside. Less than twenty minutes later, a stranger passed by the house and saw the door open, and, being a good samaritan, he closed it. The stray dog was now trapped in Jack's living room.

Jack, his wife, and his one-month-old baby weren't necessarily looking for another dog. But since she was already inside the house, they decided to let her stay. They named the dog Suzy. They dried her off, fed her, and gave her a place to rest.

The next morning, they took her to the vet where they realized Suzy was missing a pad on one of her feet. Her teeth were damaged, she was covered with fleas, and she needed medical treatment. She was around 9 years old, and not a puppy, as Jack had initially thought.

According to the Dodo, Jack put out a request for donations to help with medical costs and ended up raising $15,000. But whether or not he gets help, he's determined to take care of his new friend. With her golden fur and big, sweet eyes, Suzy sure is a cutie.

As Jack has noted several times, an open door could have led to something a lot worse. Thank goodness for friendly neighbors, and thank goodness that the poor pup found somewhere to go.
