As the ongoing coronavirus crisis continues to keep much of the world at home, one man named John Wayne Daugherty had his family's trip to Disney World canceled. However, rather than creating his own version of a ride or watching The Lion King, as others would do, John Wayne Daugherty built his own Disneyland in his home with Lego.

While the world is in quarantine, people have found innovative ways of creating new experiences and amazing memories. Disney, for example, holds a special place in the hearts of people throughout the world. Although Disney theme parks are closed, that has not stopped people from enjoying the wonders of Disney from the safety of their homes. Some have created their own versions of famous Disney rides and attractions. Others are remembering what drew them to Disney in the first place with a subscription to Disney+.

Daugherty, a resident of The Colony, Texas, is a big fan of Disney. As a treat for his family, Daugherty planned a special trip to Disney World in Florida this spring. The family’s trip had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Daugherty thought that his other obsession, Lego, could help him and his loved ones experience the wonders of Disney without actually having to go to the theme park.

Speaking with reporters from Insider, Daugherty says that he has been collecting Lego sets since 2017. Daugherty felt drawn to the toys when he saw a Ferris wheel set at a store called Bricks & Minifigs in nearby Plano, Texas. As a lover of amusement parks, Daugherty felt that the set was right up his alley. Six months later, Daugherty spied a Disney castle and carousel. Seeing these two new sets, Daugherty knew instantly that he could make his own model Disneyland from the comfort of his home.

Over the past several years, Daugherty has slowly been building his Disneyland. Most of the sets Daugherty uses come from gifts he receives from friends and family. While in the past Daugherty has kept his collection separated in both his dining room and bedroom, since the quarantine, Daugherty has brought the entire set into the dining room.

In a now viral video, Daugherty showed off his display to Disney fans from around the globe. The design sees exquisite copies of Main Street, U.S.A., Cinderella’s Castle, and even a working roller coaster. While proud of his display, Daugherty hopes that Lego and Disney will be releasing new sets in the future so that he can complete his model theme park. Daugherty is particularly hopeful that the companies will have sets for the Haunted Mansion ride and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

Daugherty also hopes to eventually have an entire room in his home dedicated just to his Disney display. The Disney fanatic says that in the future, when his kids move out, he plans on using one of the spare bedrooms as a permanent display room.

In sum, Daugherty shows us that while we cannot yet leave our homes, there are still plenty of things to do around the house that will entertain you and inspire your creativity. Daugherty’s replica of Disneyland is a true piece of art that brings joy to anyone who sees it.
