Man Takes Chance On Jobless Handyman Standing On Side Of Roading Looking For Employment

One hard truth of our current reality is that the pandemic has left many jobless. The nation is facing chaos and an uncertain future. Although some people have been lucky to find a new source of income — or some other way of turning their lives around — others have been forced to take more desperate measures. A few months ago, Robert Simpson, a 64-year-old handyman who lives in Kentucky, was one of many workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Out of work and desperate for a job, Simpson stood at the Hurstbourne Parkway exit on Interstate 64 with a sign that read: "Handyman, 25 years exp., Need work."

Robert Simpson, a resident of Louisville, stood near the side of a busy road for multiple days just hoping someone would hire him, as Wave 3 News reports. He held a sign that read: "Handyman. 25 years exp. Need work."

Robert also included a contact number that he could be reached at if someone was interested in his services. Standing at the side of the road for that long must have felt embarrassing and slightly daunting as he was at the mercy of everyone who passed by him. However, the nation's current situation calls for desperate measures.

Robert had been living with his family in a hotel, using the income from his disability check to pay the rent, Wave 3 News reports. His source of income before the pandemic came from odd jobs he would receive as a handyman.

Once the pandemic hit, he was slowly unable to find work and his family's budget was only becoming tighter. He claimed that the hotel charged him $55 per day to stay at the hotel and he was running low on funds.

His family had relocated to a hotel because he had lost his previous home due to insufficient income. He decided to make more of an effort to find work and stood at an interstate exit for several days. He did not know if anyone would call him for work, but it was definitely worth a try. As WLKY Louisville reports in the below video, a photo of Robert and his sign was posted to social media where it garnered more attention.

Thankfully, the post was viewed by someone who needed the assistance of a handyman. The owner of Greenstar Home Remodeling, Kyle Kark sent Robert a text about the job he needed to be done, as WLKY Louisville reports in the video below. The job was a long-term position where Robert would have to assist in renovating the office spaces of Kyle's company building.

Robert admitted that he did not initially ask how much Kyle was going to pay him. Instead, he felt blessed that he had finally gained a source of income to provide for his family. In addition to providing Robert with a job, Kyle also gives him daily rides to work because he does not own a car.

The company has recently created a fundraiser to help Robert and his family find a better home. Kyle claims that although he is doing his part to help Robert, the community's support would also be much appreciated. In the video below, Kyle tells Robert that he has raised $14,000 for him and his family.
