With all of the media that we consume on a daily basis, it can be hard to avoid seeing shocking and saddening headlines. Sometimes it might seem like there are only small numbers of good people left in the world with all of the horrific news that we face each day. But sometimes all it takes is one story to reinvigorate your faith in the world, and this story is sure to make you smile.

WGNTV reported that Karla was only a young teenager when she got pregnant with her son Brandon. She delivered the boy while she was only 15 years old, but she wouldn’t change a thing about the way he was born because she credits her son for showing her unconditional love at a time when she was struggling to mature as a young woman and love herself. Little did she know that when she gave birth, she brought a man into this world who would grow up to try to make a difference.

"My mom always raised me to give back," Cox said to Fox32.

Brandon credits his mother for helping to raise him as a kind human who has compassion for others. Growing up in Chicago, he excelled at school sports like basketball and remained in the same house for most of his days on Earth.

As the years went on, Brandon saw the neighborhood around him change. His community went from a happy place to a life-altering place that was becoming gentrified.

This left many of the people he grew up calling his neighbors struggling to pay their bills and keep their homes. But what could Brandon do to help people who were facing struggles as hard as homelessness? He set himself off on a mission to make things just a little better for those that had been displaced from their homes.

“I ride around, and if I see somebody that’s homeless or in need, I pull over and open my trunk,” Brandon told WGNTV. “I got pretty much every size shoe you can imagine. Tell them, take what you need; you can have it!”

Brandon decided that in order to face the brutal outdoor conditions that Chicago often endures, it’s vital that homeless people have a good pair of shoes to get them by. That’s why Brandon started collecting all different kinds of shoes, such as sneakers and boots. Brandon keeps these shoes, of all different colors and sizes, in his trunk in case he sees someone that needs a pair.

When Brandon encounters someone that is homeless, he allows them to select a pair of shoes that will meet their needs. Brandon started a campaign called Kicks For Joy and is now known as a local hero as he works hard to help others in need.

Chicago faced some extremely harsh weather this past winter, but Brandon was there to lend a hand and donated over 600 pairs of shoes to those that were in need.

You can hear more about Brandon’s journey in the video above. What do you think about this man’s project to help others? Let us know in the comments and pass this along to your friends and family to see what they think, too!
