Man Speaks Out After Getting Criticism For Dating 23-Year-Old Woman Who Looks Like An 8-Year-Old Girl

Some people look younger than their age – and that’s something most people feel thankful for when they get compliments because they give off a youthful glow. Maybe some people just really love to take good care of themselves, or maybe, it comes with their genes. But would you believe that some adults can even look too young for their age, where they almost look like kids? Well, believe it or not, some people do.

That is the unique case for one 23-year-old woman who looks like an 8-year-old girl. Since she entered into a relationship, her boyfriend was getting criticized for being romantically involved with her, with many citing her young appearance as an issue.

If you’re a fan of shows on TLC, you may have come across the show “I Am Shauna Rae.” It follows Shauna Rae Lesick, a woman diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Although she is in remission, the illness resulted in a side effect that forced her to be trapped in the body of a little girl as she stopped growing since. She only weighs 50 pounds and stands 3 feet 10 inches tall.

Lesick’s childlike appearance and stunted growth resulted in her struggling to get herself into the dating scene. But just as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait … and so she finally found the one for her. 

Lesick’s happiness, though, was quickly put to a halt after people started calling her boyfriend – 26-year-old Dan Swygart – “creepy.”

In a story published in The Mirror, most people were bothered about Swygart getting into a romantic relationship with Lesick because she appears and speaks like a child. 

"Dan almost seems especially attracted to her BECAUSE she is tiny which is concerning. I am sorry,” one person said. 

"Yes, she is 23, but she looks and talks like an eight-year-old. She also does not act like a mature woman. She is childlike,” another person remarked.

"If any man or woman can honestly say that they can see her as a "sexual woman," they are either lying or sick. PERIOD," one other person stated.

In one of the reality show’s episodes, even Lesick’s mother and step-father, Patty and Mark Schrankel, said they worried that their daughter might fall victim to pedophiles because of her appearance.

In December 2022, Swygart explained the reason why he fell in love with Lesick. He said he got inspired by her strength when he saw her in the first season of the show. So, he decided to send her some flowers and a card with a message that said: “Go live your best life. Wishing you all the happiness you deserve.”

Swygart noted that Lesick might have a disability, but she is an incredible woman whom he loves.

“It's very important to remember that Shauna is an incredible 23-year-old woman who has a disability,” Swygart said.

But Swygart said he fell in love with Lesick because of the connection he built with her, rather than appearances.

"So as you are building a connection with her, it's important to acknowledge her disability and look past that and build it with who she is an individual,” he remarked.

Swygart said he couldn’t help but feel disgusted over people who put malice behind his intentions with Lesick.

"As soon as you say that she can't have a real-world connection with someone else, you dehumanise her, which is absolutely disgusting,” he said. “She is a human being. She deserves to have relationships and connections with whoever she wants,” he added.

However, it seems Lesick and Swygart's budding romance may be no more. Asked by the Daily Record, Lesick revealed they'd have to try long distance if they were to make it work, but "it's not my cup of tea," she said.
