It's common knowledge that Billy Joel is one of the most remarkable songwriters ever to hit the charts. His ability to create innovative and unique music all while having his music retain its popularity is a testament to the timeless nature of his music.

In fact, the aforementioned timelessness is the exact reason as to why Joel is able to continue having so many successful Madison Square Garden shows and why so many people are still making new interpretations of his songs to this day.

One of the most interesting interpretations of Billy Joel's music comes in one of the most unexpected places: YouTube. On his YouTube channel, musician Jared Halley uploaded a video called "Ultimate Billy Joel Medley" that effortlessly blends 19 Billy Joel songs for an incredibly unique experience.

We love this video! There are so many things to highlight, but perhaps the most important to highlight is how well the medley works. Similar types of medleys typically show the songs in chronological order to show how an artist has progressed over the course of their career, so it's cool to see this medley bounce back and forth across Joel's career to instead match the songs based on musical content.

The arrangement itself is quite remarkable, with Jared Halley having an almost masterful technique for arranging and mixing songs into each other. With his cover of "She's Always a Woman" he displays his intuition for voice leading, condensing what on the album is a full band arrangement into a vivid 5 voice rendition. Our absolute favorite cover on this is when he goes full Billy Joel with "The Longest Time", perhaps the best Billy Joel song to do in an a cappella context.

He also takes it down a few notches to fit his voice, which is surprisingly good! It's not every day that changing key signatures doesn't radically change the song, but we can hear the original Joel spirit bursting through this rendition.

What do you think? Does this medley have your favorite Billy Joel songs? Are there any you're missing? Let us know what you think!
