Man Rescues Old And Disabled Dog No One Else Wanted

When someone goes to the animal shelter, they are usually looking for an adorable puppy or are on the lookout for a certain breed. Far too often, dogs that have injuries or disabilities are the last to be adopted, with many of them ultimately being put down.

When Engelbert arrived at the shelter, it looked like his chances for finding a family of his own were slim. The tiny dog had experienced severe neglect in his life.

His first owner had left him outside in the cold winter, leaving him with frostbitten ears. At the shelter, part of his treatment for this was trimming off parts of his ears. Engelbert also suffers from neurological issues and back legs that don’t work as they should. After Engelbert was taken from his abusive owner, it was starting to look like he was going to spend the rest of his life in the shelter.

But that's when a man named Steve came in and saved the day.

Steve had arrived at the shelter to adopt a different dog only to find that it already found a home. When Steve was leaving, he caught sight of Engelbert and knew that he was meant to be a part of his family. Steve adopted Engelbert and took him home to his small zoo. While Steve is not married nor does he have human children, he has a full house with six other dogs, a pig, a rabbit, a cat, and an assortment of other animals. Engelbert immediately fit in with his new family and made himself right at home. Many of Steve’s other animals share disabilities, making it easy for Engelbert to make friends with the other furry animals.

To Steve, his animals are truly like his children. He loves carrying five-pound Engelbert like a baby and he has even gone so far as to sneak the little dog into the stores when he goes shopping.
