In 2018, Steven Thibeault from Nahant, Massachusetts rescued a duckling in a swimming pool after its mom left it. Steven named it Cheerio and now the duck is part of his family, following Steven everywhere, even to work.

Steven Thibeault, an attentive apartment complex manager, saw something unusual while doing his outdoor work one day. Even years later, that something unusual has made a difference in his life.

On that memorable day, Thibeault saw a small duckling struggling in the water. No duck family members could be found, and the little one needed help—so Thibeault took the duckling home and cared for him.

Thibeault named the duck Cheerio, and the two became great friends. Pictures of the two are plentiful on Cheerio's Instagram account. In multiple pictures, Cheerio is seen as a very small duckling sitting on Thibeault's shoulder.

Now that Cheerio has grown, he spends less time on Thibeault's shoulder. However, the affectionate duck still treats Thibeault as his favorite human. In fact, the two go to work together every day. At the end of the day, they return home together.

Thibeault has always planned to release Cheerio into the wild whenever the duck was ready, and that's still the plan. Cheerio is free to come and go, but he chooses to come and go with Thibeault.

When the two go to work at the apartment complex, Cheerio spends most of his time outside while Thibeault does his work. Cheerio gets along well with the other ducks, which gives him some good social time with his feathered friends. He's something of a celebrity among the humans at the apartment complex, too, which earns him a few treats.

At the apartment complex, and when relaxing, Cheerio spends plenty of time outdoors, and he shares Instagram pictures of his favorite spots. Of course, Cheerio has lots of animal friends. These include the ducks who live nearby and the other family pets who live at home. Surprisingly, Cheerio even has cat and dog buddies!

Cheerio has lots of Instagram pictures of himself riding in Thibeault's car, almost like a human. Together these good friends have stuck together. Thibeault says that Cheerio is free to leave when he chooses. However, so far, the duck has always chosen the human, and both of them are fine with that.

This duck and this human look out for each other and love being together—and it looks like it's going to stay that way. Would you say that this is a pair of unlikely friends? Tell us about your favorite animal friends and tell a friend about this heartwarming story.
