Pets are a part of the family for many people, so when they get sick it can really impact the lives of their owners. That's exactly what happened when Randy Etter's dog, Gemini, fell ill after playing a seemingly innocent game.

According to The Dodo, Randy's girlfriend has a young daughter who still drinks from a bottle and sleeps in a playpen. One day, the child was playing a game of fetch with Gemini. The game involved her throwing the bottle out of the playpen and Gemini retrieving it. After Gemini retrieved the bottle, Randy washed it and gave the bottle back to his girlfriend's daughter.

This game went on for awhile until Gemini and the little girl both tired of it. Everything seemed fine until Randy noticed that Gemini was not acting like himself.

“He just started to slow down and I didn't think that was normal, just laying beside me and following me everywhere,” Randy told The Dodo. “I just felt like he was saying, ‘Help me.’”

Randy instantly sensed something was wrong so he took Gemini to the vet. The vet was unable to find anything wrong with Gemini and sent Randy on his way.

But Randy's gut told him that something still wasn't right, so he continued to drive all over town looking for a vet that would properly diagnose his pet. In the meantime, Randy lost his job because he had devoted so much of his time to helping Gemini.

He finally came across a vet who found a blockage obstructing Gemini's intestine. The blockage was caused by the bottle cap that Gemini had been playing fetch with.

Randy refused to allow his dog to suffer any more than he already had, so he immediately set about to try to secure the funds needed for the $4,500 surgery. While a friend loaned Randy $2,000, it wasn't enough to cover the surgery. Randy resorted to listing his car for sale on Facebook in hopes that it would sell fast.

That's when a miracle happened. A member of S.O.A.R. (Street Animal Outreach Response) saw Randy's post on Facebook and contacted him to offer help. They raised the other $3,000 needed for Gemini's surgery. The surgery was successful and Gemini is now back to normal.
