Man Proposed 43 Times In 7 Years Before His Rejections Turned Into A ‘Yes’

After 43 proposals and seven years of persistence, one man finally got the answer he’d been waiting for. Luke Wintrip, a 36-year-old tattoo artist from the United Kingdom, asked his girlfriend, Sarah, 38, to marry him dozens of times since they began dating in 2018. The couple’s journey has now become an inspiring testament to patience, resilience, and unwavering love.
The first proposal came just six months into their relationship. Caught off guard, Sarah, who works in marketing, rejected him honestly.
“I didn’t expect it,” she said. “I just said, ‘No, we’ve only been together for six months.’”
Although she deeply loved Luke, Sarah admitted she wasn’t ready to commit to something she might later regret.
“I loved him, but I didn’t want to say ‘yes’ to something I later retracted.”
But Luke wasn’t deterred. He embarked on a heartfelt mission to win her over, crafting 42 creative, romantic, and often elaborate proposals throughout the years. From renting out a historic castle in Prague to orchestrating candlelit dinners and even arranging a horseback-riding excursion on a beach in Jamaica, each attempt was unique and filled with love.
Sarah finally gave him a glimmer of hope after the 42nd proposal when she told him, “Next time you ask, I’m going to say ‘yes,’ but just you wait.” It was a promise that changed everything.
Luke’s relentless love story isn’t just about perseverance; it’s about knowing someone so deeply that you’re willing to ask the same life-changing question over and over, just waiting for the day the answer is finally “yes.”
A year after Sarah’s heartfelt promise, Luke chose a special location to propose one more time. He brought her to Greenwich in South East London, known as the reference point for Greenwich Mean Time.
The site, deeply symbolic as the “center of the world,” became the backdrop for his final proposal. This time, there was no hesitation. Luke said, as Sarah recounted the moment:
“This is the center of the world and you are the center of my world and I want you to marry me.”
Sarah, a mother of three from Chelmsford, Essex, smiled and finally said the one word Luke had been waiting to hear for years:
"Yes."
“He finally won my heart,” she admitted, touched by the years of unwavering devotion. “He should probably get a Guinness World Record,” she added with a laugh.
“I am grateful he persisted for so long.”
Their love story culminated in a dreamy destination wedding held on May 17, 2025, in Jamaica, a location that had already played a part in Luke’s earlier proposal efforts. However, the day was not without its challenges. Sarah was suffering intense pain during the ceremony and later discovered she had a ruptured cyst in her groin, which led to a hospital stay and a life-threatening infection. But even medical emergencies couldn’t overshadow the joy of the occasion.
Despite the unexpected detour, Sarah shared their joy online with a photo captioned simply and powerfully:
“Mr and Mrs Wintrip. Finally.”
The journey from rejection to lifelong commitment was long and winding. Still, ultimately, it ended in a celebration of love that had been nurtured with patience, creativity, and an unshakable belief that someday, “yes” would come.
