Two musicians who call themselves Brooklyn Duo do unusual renditions of many different types of songs. One cover they are getting a lot of attention for is "The Sound of Silence" which riffs not just on the Simon and Garfunkel version but on the cover by Disturbed.

This successful classical crossover ensemble consists of Patrick on cello and Marnie on a Baby Grand piano. They have released seven albums of covers and dozens of videos.

Their "The Sound of Silence" cover begins fairly conventionally.

First, Marnie plays the opening strains on the piano, and then Patrick joins in with his cello. At the beginning, it resembles the Simon and Garfunkel version, and you can almost imagine their voices rising along with the music.

However, as it goes on, the song begins to draw from Disturbed's cover as well. In blending the two versions of the songs, Brooklyn Duo arrives at their own version which is both haunting and beautiful. Both Patrick and Marnie have said this is their favorite song that they perform. You can listen and decide for yourself.

What do you think of Marnie and Patrick's version of "The Sound of Silence"? How do you think it compares to the two versions it is riffing on? Comment and let us know.
