Most pet owners would do anything for their furry companions, especially when it comes to making sure they're happy, healthy and safe. These adorable creatures can easily become great friends and even feel like family, making the bond between owners and their pets even more special. Whenever something bad happens to a pet, it's common for their owners to do whatever they can to make sure their furry friend is once again safe and happy.

A man in New York went above and beyond to help rescue his pet dog after the dog fell into the Hudson River on July 17, 2021. Despite his good intentions, the rescue mission did not exactly go as planned, as it only led to more complications and even required a second rescue mission. The 28-year-old man had jumped into the water in hopes of rescuing his dog, but once he was in the water alongside his furry friend, he had a hard time getting back on land.

The man struggled to complete the rescue mission as he tightly held onto his dog while still trying to get out of the river, but stayed determined as he needed to save both himself and his pet. Thankfully, first responders were quick to respond and arrived at the scene to help rescue the man and his beloved dog. The New York Police Department's Harbor and Emergency Service Unit were fast to arrive at the scene and properly execute their rescue mission, saving both the man and his trusty pet and helping them return to shore.

A Pile Of Rescue Missions

The New York Post reported that the 28-year-old man jumped into the water at 42rd Street and 12th Avenue around 5 p.m. on July 17, 2021, in an attempt to save his dog that had accidentally fallen into the Hudson River. Unfortunately, his plan was not executed as well as he had hoped, and he struggled to stay afloat in the water while desperately clutching his dog and trying to get back onto land. The New York Police Department's Harbor and Emergency Service Unit quickly arrived at the scene to save both the pet and pet owner.

The man and dog were towed safely back to shore, completing the rescue, as per the New York Post. The man was then taken to Mt. Sinai West and is expected to fully recover from the incident. No details about any potential injuries were released. A video uploaded by Erin Lostraglio was posted on her Twitter account that showed the moment when the man and his dog were rescued. According to her video, they had gotten stuck in the water in the Hudson River at Pier 83.

The NYPD Special Ops team tweeted about the rescue, giving a special shout out and thanks to the first responders who helped save the man and his dog. "Great work by #NYPD Harbor & ESU rescuing a male that jumped into the Hudson River to retrieve his dog that accidentally fell into the water," the tweet read.
