Man Makes Headlines After Keeping Eye On Elderly Woman And Swooping In At First Opportunity

You don’t have the watch the news for very long before you hear a horror story about people who are taking advantage of the elderly; however, this isn’t always the case. Two young men in Alabama decided to take things in a different direction and, rather than preying on their senior neighbor, they looked for a way to make her life easier.

The sweet elderly woman is 93-years-old and lives by herself in a house that she owns. While she loves her independence, the upkeep and care for a house and yard can seem overwhelming at times. One of the most difficult jobs that she faced was mowing her own lawn – especially since she had to use a push mower.

Two of her young neighbors, Rodney Smith Jr. and Terrence Stroy, watched the elderly woman struggling to maneuver her push mower through the grass on her lawn. Rather than turn their heads, they chose to make a difference.

Heading over to their neighbor’s yard, they completed the task for her and did it without asking for any money in return.

After they completed her yard, the men determined that they would continue to return to mow her lawn every two weeks. This elderly woman would never need to worry about mowing her yard again.

Smith and Stroy were so impacted by their decision to help her with her yard, that they decided to make a lasting impact in their community by offering free lawn-care services. While both men are university students, they chose to make some spare time to lend a helping hand to those struggling to keep their yards maintained. And, continuing with the tradition they started with their elderly neighbor, these young men do not charge anything for their work.

They explained that they saw a need and decided to do something about it. Noticing the struggle for some individuals to keep their lawns maintained, they opened “Raising Men Lawn Care Services”, which provides free mowing services to the elderly, disabled, and single mothers.

While “Raising Men Lawn Care Services” focuses on providing free lawn care, Rodney explains that its reaches goes much farther than just that. This service also provides volunteer work positions for boys and girls.

By training young people to help their community, Rodney explains that he wants to give children a sense of accomplishment while encouraging them to assist those less fortunate. The ultimate goal is two-fold: Helping the needy with valuable services and fostering a servant-heart in children.

It’s so amazing to see young people who are passionate about making a difference in the world. Through Smith and Stroys’ choice to help an elderly neighbor, they have started a major outreach that is impacting countless lives.

It will be so interesting to see how this act of kindness produces a ripple effect over the years to come. It is very likely that the very boys and girls volunteering with “Raising Men Lawn Care Services” will start helpful projects of their own.
