Man Kisses The Ground After He And His Uncle Spent Over 40 Years In Prison For A Murder They Didn't Commit

On March 28, 2019, two men were released into freedom for the first time from 42 years. These two men are Clifford Williams and Hubert "Nathan" Myers. The two men are uncle and nephew who were set free from a Florida prison after being found wrongly convicted for a murder that they did not commit.

Seventy-six-year-old Clifford Williams and 61-year-old Hubert 'Nathan' Myers were the first felons to be released in the Florida prison in Jackson after having their case reviewed and found to be a wrongful conviction.

As the two exited the courtroom, Myers dropped down to kiss the ground. The two men were wrongfully accused for the murder of Jeanette Williams and for the attempted murder of Nina Marshall back in 1976. Despite this, the two men always pleaded their innocence.

The guilt fell on the two men after Nina, Jeanette's girlfriend, identified the two men as the murderers even though the two were sleeping when the murder took place. While there was no concrete evidence of the murder, the two men were locked in prison because of Nina's testimony.

Initially, Williams was given a death sentence, but four years later at an appeal was given a life sentence in prison. The sentence was given to him despite the fact that the testimony of the woman differed from the evidence that the shooting took place from outside the window and not from inside the room as the woman claimed.

The alibi of the two men were several people from a nearby party for which both men were present. This was ignored by the court. The court also ignored the fact that in 1996 a man confessed that he had committed the criminal act.

It was then that Williams and Myers contacted the Innocence Project to get things straight. A thorough investigation began in which the State's Attorney wanted their sentence vacated because of their potential innocence.

The freedom of the two men was long-awaited. They owe it all to the Innocence Project and the work of the men and women of that team. The Innocence Project is an organization that works to free wrongfully convicted people through modern DNA testing that did not exist before the late 1980s.

According to statistics of the organization, as much as 5% of all prisoners in the USA are innocent. Williams and Myers are the 362nd case of incorrect conviction that was overturned through modern DNA evidence.
