Getting a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy isn’t something that most people can even imagine. It can be frustrating and very upsetting, for a lot of reasons. People are usually diagnosed during childhood and it affects everything they do. This is because muscular dystrophy causes the loss of muscle mass.

Because of limited muscle mass, many people with muscular dystrophy usually end up in a wheelchair for a good portion of their life. This is a problem for a lot of people that want to live an active life.

One example of what some people with muscular dystrophy wish they could do is go mountain climbing. For most people, going mountain climbing is intimidating. For someone with muscular dystrophy, it's inconceivable.

Despite having muscular dystrophy, Shue Vang chose to get to the top of Angels Landing Hike in Utah. He wanted to beat the odds. That’s right, he made it all the way up with the help of amazing friends. This was a dream and a once in a lifetime opportunity that his friends helped him achieve. How? By carrying him all the way to the top.

Having people carry you up a mountain requires you to really trust them. Shue trusted his friends and their goodwill was very much appreciated. What you should know is that the mountain is extremely narrow and it’s not uncommon for accidents to occur, as reported here at KUTV. There’s no doubt that climbing this mountain is risky. Despite the risk, Shue didn’t want to pass up the chance to go up the mountain.

There were a total of 32 people there to provide support. As a team, they carried Shue across water as they climbed the mountain. One reason why this was so meaningful is that Shue experienced mountain climbing before being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Needless to say, tears flowed during this amazing experience.

This experience shows us all what real friendship is about. The climb even provided support for the F5 Challenge that is a charity founded by Shue’s group. There was an unforgettable view on the mountaintop. What do you think about what Shue's friends did? Pass this on to your precious friends.
