Everyone experiences temporary memory loss or amnesia once in awhile. It's a common thing that humans seem to suffer from on a weekly or monthly basis. We're not talking about forgetting your name or birthday but minor details and facts. It's that feeling you have when you can't quite remember the name of a co-worker or remember where you put your wallet the night before. These are frustrating moments that some people refer to colloquially as 'brain farts'.

Fortunately, these mental hiccups don't usually have too much impact on our daily lives. Other than suffering a little embarrassment from coworkers or friends, this weird mental quirk doesn't impact our lives in any discernible way as a rule. We usually remember what we had forgotten within a few minutes or the next day, at the very least. Unfortunately for one man, he never remembered and had to wait 20 years to uncover something quite valuable.

As reported by German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine, one man living in Frankfurt, Germany had to report his car as stolen after he failed to find it in the same spot which he had parked it before. Fast forward nearly 20 years, and the police have finally found the vehicle. The man must have been surprised to hear that the case was still open and that the police had successfully located a car that had been stolen two decades in the past. If that isn't surprising enough, then the true story certainly will be. In fact, the man's car was never actually stolen. It was found in the same original spot in which he had parked it in 1997.

The Volkswagen Passat simply sat gathering dust in the original spot for 20 years. The poor German driver couldn't remember the original parking location. It is possible that the car would have remained hidden for even longer if the area nearby hadn't been scheduled to be demolished. Police reported that the man's car wasn't clearly seen due to the junk and debris nearby.

The newspaper reported that the car had been parked in an industrial building's garage which was closed permanently in the 1990s. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the car was in no shape to be driven. According to the local police, it had to be sent to the scrap yard.

If you found this story entertaining, show it to someone who regularly forgets where they parked their car. What is the longest time you've gone without knowing where your vehicle is parked?
