Man Goes Behind Future Bride’s Back To Return ‘Dream Wedding Dress’ And Pockets Thousands

Jul 06, 2022 by apost team

Getting married is an extremely exciting experience for the loved-up couple. It’s a chance for two people to profess their love for one another in whatever way they choose, whether it be in front of all of their friends and family, just a few close people in their lives or simply just the two of them and an officiant. On top of that, several other aspects go into planning a wedding, like picking out food, music, and of course, what to wear.

Most brides envision themselves wearing their dream wedding dress. However, this can certainly come at a price. According to The Knot, the average wedding dress cost in 2021 was $1,800, with 93% of people purchasing a new dress for their wedding.

For one soon-to-be bride, she found herself in a heartbreaking predicament when she and her future husband could not agree on her wedding dress. She had always envisioned the type of gown she would wear and admitted that it was pretty expensive. However, her partner didn’t see the need to spend so much money on a dress that would only be worn once and instead told her she should find something cheaper or rent her dress.

The bride bought her dream dress and was shocked when she found out that her soon-to-be husband returned it without consulting her first. Since then, the two have gotten into several arguments about how much money they are “wasting” on the wedding and what their future financial relationship will look like. So, the bride went to Reddit in May 2022 to ask users for help on what she should do next.

In her Reddit post, the original poster (OP) explained that she is 29 years old and her future husband is 33. They have gotten along pretty well throughout the planning part of their wedding thus far, aside from a few arguments here and there, specifically about the venue and who will be their flower girl. Their biggest issue has been over OP’s wedding dress.

She explained, “This might sound cliche but ever since I was young I dreamed of having my own beautiful wedding dress. I can afford it but my soon-to-be husband thinks it’s not OK to waste a couple of thousands on a dress I’m only going to wear once – yes he might have a point there but for one, this is typical price for wedding dresses, and two, because it’s a once in a lifetime thing then why not make sure it’s special?”

However, OP’s partner didn’t agree and suggested that she rent a dress instead. He called her “irresponsible” for already wanting to spend money on getting her makeup professionally done and getting hair extensions, but OP argued that it was her “right as a bride” to look the way she wanted on her wedding day.

OP decided to purchase her dream dress anyway but found it missing the following day. It turned out that her partner returned the dress without her knowing. “I was shocked,” OP said. “I asked him why he did that and he said he thought the dress was ridiculously expensive and that was wasting money and AGAIN suggested I go rent one.”

Livid, OP went off on her partner for his actions, especially since she was paying for the dress with her own money. This became a shouting match about future financial troubles they’ll most likely run into. OP said that her soon-to-be husband has “zero say” in how she spends her money. “He told me that I should grow the F up and stop with the ‘dream wedding dress’ cliche…” OP said

She then also got in a fight with her future mother-in-law about the price of the dress and how she should opt for a cheaper one or rent one. Also, OP’s partner still has the money from returning the wedding dress and won’t give it back until they can agree to a solution.

OP needed some advice and turned to Redditors for their help. Many users agreed that OP should reconsider her future with this man as he seemed very controlling, and it seemed like they would have many more problems ahead.

One user commented, “He literally stole from you and then called his mom to tell you he was right? Time to cancel the wedding!” Another said, “Personally, I wouldn’t marry this man. He’s very controlling. Also, I hope he gave you your full refund back.”

A third user pointed out just how many red flags there already were in this relationship and sarcastically joked that the wedding theme could be “red flags.” The user added, “Personally, I think she should call the cops on the man who stole several thousand dollars from her instead of marrying him, but that’s just me.”

People have continued to leave comments urging OP to really reconsider marrying this person and do whatever it takes to get her money back.
