Canadians are accustomed to dealing with at least a few feet of snowfall each year, but they may not be used to seeing a locomotive traveling at a high rate of speed strike a huge mound of snow. Thankfully, an observer of this stunning event had the forethought to whip out his smartphone and start recording so that everyone could appreciate this awesome sight.

Canadian National Railway runs many daily routes across the country, and this particular event took place with locomotive 2304, which was traveling between Moncton and Saint John. The lucky observer to this event was standing close to an intersection in the beautiful small town of Salisbury, which is located in Westmorland County. When he saw what was about to happen, he had enough time to get out his smartphone and to warn approaching drivers to stay back for their safety.

The footage that the man recorded on his smartphone is truly impressive.

It initially shows a huge mound of fresh snow that has piled up over the tracks as well as the train traveling at a very high speed heading straight toward it.

As you might imagine, the train’s immediate impact caused snow to project outward in all directions. In fact, the pure white snow billowed so high and with such force that the man’s camera only caught a few seconds of footage before huge chunks of snow reached him and his camera.

For a moment, the smartphone’s lens is completely covered in white, but the video shows him wiping the lens clean so that we can see the rest of the scene as it unfolds.

The footage shows the train continuing to plow through the snow. As it clears the tracks and the snow settles, you can see the new placement of the snow piled up around the tracks. Altogether, this huge train takes more than two minutes to pass by the man and to clear the intersection.

While Mother Nature certainly is a force to be reckoned with at times, this stunning footage shows what happens when the power of man’s creations and Mother Nature come together in a head-to-head battle. You can check out the footage here.
