A video recording of a cherished memory was returned to its rightful owner thanks to a caring man who wanted to do the right thing.

Filmmaker Jim McKay bought an old VCR at a thrift store in Austin, Texas. A few months later, he discovered that there had been an old VHS videotape left inside of the machine. What he found when he pushed play simply made his heart swell. The tape was a video recording from 1994 showing a little boy taking his first steps.

After posting about his findings on social media, McKay found the owner of the tape. The baby in the video, TyRe Alexanders, is now 26 years old.

When the video begins, the clip shows a heartwarming moment of a dad encouraging his toddler named TyRe to put one foot in front of the other before the little boy wobbles along. Of course, Jim McKay knew this was a rare treasure that needed to be returned to the family as soon as possible.

On January 4, McKay posted a part of the video on his Facebook, asking for people to help him find the rightful owner. As to be expected, the post quickly went viral. Some news stations across Texas even picked up the story, airing it on the local newscasts to help spread the word.

TyRe Alexander, the toddler in the video, is now 26 years old. His mom happened to see the story on the news and could not believe her eyes. She said that she would always recognize her little cubs and knew right away that this tape belonged to them.

Alexander is incredibly grateful that McKay took the time to return this precious memory to his family. The men both featured on the Today show, where Alexander took the opportunity to thank McKay in person.
