Just when we need a little sunshine in our lives, a man in Ohio reminds us that love is still what matters most. He does this by singing a classic song to his little pet donkey. While cradling her in his arms, he sings What the World Needs Now Is Love, and it's truly the sweetest video. Luckily, someone uploaded it to YouTube for others to see this year.

Dean and Dawn Fagan own a 67-acre donkey sanctuary on their farm in Marengo, Ohio. Dean has become a bit of a celebrity for the way he sings to the young donkeys. According to Dawn, a foal named Baby Ivy waits daily to hear Dean sing The Crawdad Song to her, as Fox 5 Atlanta reports.

Special Treatment for a Special Donkey

Now, Ivy is being treated to a rendition of a classic from her dad. In the video, Fagan cradles the young donkey in his arms and sings What the World Needs Now.

You can see Ivy calm down and close her eyes in relaxation. The lyrics seem especially relevant in light of current events: "What the world needs now is love, sweet love/It's the only thing that there's just too little of."

It Was One of a String of Hits

What the World Needs Now was destined to be a hit. It was composed by Burt Bacharach with lyrics by Hal David. The powerhouse duo produced a string of smash hits in the 1960s and 70s.

Bacharach originally offered it to Dionne Warwick. She recorded many of Bacharach's hits, but she didn't think the song was right for her. Jackie DeShannon released it in 1965, and it became a top 10 hit in the US and Canada. Warwick later released it on her 1967 album Here Where There Is Love.

A Much-Loved Classic

The song has become an enduring classic. It has appeared in several movie soundtracks including My Best Friend's Wedding and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Luther Vandross, Petula Clark, Cilia Black, and Aimee Mann are among the many singers who have covered it. Now, the song will undoubtedly get new life in a video that is sure to go viral.

We sometimes forget to share positive moments. Dean Fagan reminds us that there are reasons to smile with a video where he sings to a donkey.
