Man Criticized For Cheap Proposal In Fast Food Restaurant Proves Love Overpowers All

Every girl dreams about what her wedding day will be like, but before that can happen, there needs to be a beautiful proposal. Some people opt to propose in a more intimate setting, like in the comfort of their own home or in a very secluded area in a romantic restaurant. Others choose something a bit more extravagant and show-stopping, like proposing in front of a large crowd of people in front of a well-known landmark.

In 2019, one couple went viral for their unique proposal. An online post was supposed to demonstrate how unsophisticated, broke men in South Africa propose to their girlfriends. Instead, it gave Hector Mkansi the dream of a lifetime.

Though Mkansi did not have much money, he wanted his bride Nonhlanhla Soldaat to know how much he loved her. So, in one of her favorite restaurants, he got down on his knees and posed the question.

Mksani told TimesLIVE in an interview, "My wife loves food – she loves chicken. But to be honest, this is where I can afford food for my whole family."

With cheering, onlooking KFC patrons, his shy bride accepted.

Meanwhile, a bystander, Kateka Malobola, got his camera phone and began to film. Moved by what he witnessed, he posted the video to his social media accounts to share with friends. His friends shared with their friends, who shared with their friends and the rest, shall we say, is viral internet history.

KFC South Africa got a hold of the video and posted it themselves on Twitter, sharing the happy moment and celebrating it with the hashtag “#KFCProposal.”

Although not everyone was touchy-feely about Mkansi's loving gesture, true love overpowered any negativity sent the couple’s way.

According to Bored Panda, the opposition that struck a pinched social-media nerve came from @butterfly_Anele, who has since deleted her post. The user’s comments about men who propose at KFC having absolutely no class rattled the audience, and the community clap back was swift.

According to CNN, people were moved by the humble proposal, and KFC South Africa even provided Mkansi and Soldaat with a wedding planner and car ride service to help them travel for their honeymoon.

Another person tweeted that they were willing to donate jewelry for the occasion, writing, “Guys is the sweetest story ever. Please dm me,my jewelry company will donate with these two beautiful rings worth R45000. They deserve Rose Gold with diamonds . #KFCProposal.”

The couple tied the knot on Dec. 31, 2019. According to CNN, they had previously married in a small ceremony in 2012, but it wasn’t what they envisioned. Wanting to give his wife everything she deserved, Mkansi purchased new rings and proposed to her at her favorite eatery.

KFC South Africa posted a beautiful video of the wedding day with the hashtags “#KFCWEDDING” and “KFCProposal.”

Needless to say, Mkansi and Soldaat have been over-the-moon with the love they’ve received from so many strangers from all over the world. Mkansi told CNN:

“We are still in disbelief, both of us have to ask each other if this is really happening from time to time. We couldn’t be more grateful to God and every single person that has shared in our little love story.”

He added, “Our dream has come true, we never in a million years thought something like this would happen to us.”
