Man Couldn't Stand Seeing Stray Dogs Dying On The Streets, So He Adopted 450 Of Them

Stray dogs are unfortunately common in areas around the world. Close to home, strays are captured by animal control services. After being treated for various health conditions as needed, they may be placed up for adoption and found a loving home. In Serbia, homeless dogs are truly problematic. Dogs living on the streets often deal with various illnesses before ultimately dying of starvation.

While the sight of sick and starving homeless dogs is heartbreaking to many people, even those who would like to step up and do something for struggling animals unfortunately have no ability to do so.

Thankfully, this was not the case for Sasa Peicic.

Sasa was fortunate enough to have a few unused riding stables in his possession. He decided to do something useful with these stables. After making a few modifications, Sasa repurposed the stables into the perfect home for these dogs. The stables offered space for dogs to seek shelter from the elements as well as ample room to run and play.

Sasa’s new animal sanctuary was large enough to accommodate an astounding 450 dogs. Simply giving the dogs a shelter and a place to run around was not enough. Sasa also had to provide these rescue dogs with food and medical care. Feeding and caring for so many animals requires a small team of helpers as well.

Altogether, Sasa has a budget of approximately $15 per dog per month to cover all related expenses. He receives financial support from Harmony Fund, which is an international organization that supports animal rescue groups and center’s like Sasa has created.
