Man Converts Retired Aircraft Into Beautiful Home — Check Out What It Looks Like Inside

When you hear the word house, it is typically thought of as a structure with a roof, windows, and various rooms. The sizes vary depending on how many family members live on the property, but have you ever seen a home that was built inside an airplane, nestled in the woods?

A man named Bruce Campbell appeared in a feature video by CNBC Make It released in December 2022, where he proudly showed off his home, a Boeing 727 jetliner aircraft situated in Portland, Oregon.

Even though living in an aircraft is unconventional, and some people might find it odd, Campbell considers it as his happy place.

In the interview, the owner said: "When you live in a structure like this, you feel a little more dignified, you feel a little more fulfilled with your life. And if you're an engineer or a scientist or anyone who appreciates the elegance and beauty of aerospace technology, it's just a happier place to live."

Campbell's fascination with aircraft began when he was 15 years old. At the time, he and his family were watching the news, and the TV flashed a video of the Bowen Yards, which had a lot of aircraft.

"My jaw dropped, and I thought, ''Oh my God, that's incredible," he recalled.

Shortly after he graduated from college, the man bought the ten acres of land where his future aircraft home would later be placed.

Regarding how he acquired the airplane, Campbell hired a salvage company, which he considered a "big mistake" and later regretted when the cost increased from $30,000 to a staggering $100,000."

The inside of his home is fascinating as it still has bits and pieces of the once-functioning airplane. He uses a futon sofa as a bed and an electric blanket for warmth, especially during wintertime.

Since aircraft don't catch signals that well, he used a cell phone in a cabin window to access the internet. At the time of the interview, he hoped to get an actual Wi-Fi signal from Hillsboro.

He also has a primitive indoor shower, a guest lavatory, a washing machine, and a refrigerator, and since he's a self-confessed "nerd," he admitted that he doesn't cook and would often use his microwave oven instead.

At the time when the video was released, Campbell was paying around $220 a month in property taxes.

Not only was the aircraft fascinating on its own as it was converted into a home, but its backstory was also interesting as Campbell said that it was the same transportation where Olympic Airways former owner Aristotle Onassis last flew on.

Onassis was married to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis after John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

"I have no regrets about pursuing this vision. It's fun. Jetliner homes are really cool, and in my experience with my guests, I do believe that humanity will embrace this vision wholeheartedly in enough proportion that we can utilize every jetliner that retires from service," he said.

Even though Campbell was living in a unique home, it appeared that his entire vision wasn'twasn't fulfilled yet at the time as he believed that his aircraft was "in the wrong country" because his dearest friends and loved ones were in Japan; that's why his next project would be to execute the same thing in the Asian country.
