Man Collects Discarded Coolers And Transforms Them Into Warm Homes For Stray Cats During Winter

You don’t have to look very hard before you find a stray cat roaming the streets of almost any neighborhood. These cats are called “feral," meaning that they are wild and have no attachment to humans. When they are approached, they often run and, if they are caught, fight desperately to get away.

Despite their wild behavior, these animals are still important and have feelings just like the most domesticated feline. Thankfully one kind man, Philip Rogich from Utah, cares about these cats, even if no one else does – and he makes sure they have a warm home in the winters by created some for them using discarded coolers.

Sadly, many of these street cats are left to fend for themselves in alleyways and abandoned buildings. Since they are so impossible to tame, animal rescue groups often have to leave them on the streets as they would have no luck being adopted into a home and would risk being put down in a shelter.

Philip Rogich told Fox13 that he recognized that they were likely to be overlooked during the harsh winter months, resulting in them being frostbitten or even worse. He decided that it was time to take action and started a mission to provide them with warm shelters.

Philip got the genius idea to take old coolers and cut them to create cat-sized doors. The end result is a warm and cozy place where cats can sleep together and be insulated against the harsh elements of the outdoor world.

Philip can now crank out a makeshift cat house in as little as five minutes, making it easy for him to provide dozens of cats with safe housing.

Aside from the cooler, Philip informed Fox13 that his supplies also include a 6-inch drill bit, insulation, Styrofoam, plastic and straw. The straw acts as bedding for the cats, giving them a soft place to sleep.

If you would like to learn more about Philip’s important job and the work that he is doing to help these forgotten feral cats, you can find him on Facebook. Philip is also happy to accept donations of coolers so that he can make new cat homes.

We certainly appreciate the work that Philip is doing and the way that he is standing up for and protecting animals that would usually be forgotten by the rest of the world!
