Man Buys Stolen $1,700 Bike For $105 And Returns It To The Original Owner

The world can be a cruel and tumultuous place nowadays, and we all love a story when the good guys win in the end. Disney isn’t exactly going bankrupt with their style of storytelling. Fortunately, there are good guys in real life too, and when they come out on top, it’s something everyone wants to hear about. Case in point: Ste Burke, 26, of the UK.

Ste had just returned home from the gym and was about to go inside when he saw three suspicious-looking men coming toward him with a bike. They asked him if he wanted to buy it, and he instantly knew something was wrong.

Ste obviously knows a thing or two about bikes and could tell that this one was high-quality and worth the equivalent of $1,700. When they offered to sell it to him for $130, he became even more suspicious. And when he noticed the lock on the back tire, his suspicions were confirmed: The bike was stolen, reports Liverpool Echo.

He offered the thieves $105 which they greedily accepted and went on their way. Ste quickly took to Twitter in an attempt to track down the rightful owner and correct a situation that, for someone, had gone terribly wrong. He posted a picture of the bike and asked if anyone had recently had it stolen, claiming he would be “heartbroken” if he lost such a valuable item.

Soon enough, someone claimed to know who the rightful owner of the bike was and offered to connect Ste to him. Within a few hours, the two met up. The man who claimed to be the owner of the bike had the correct key for the tire lock and a receipt of sale proving he was indeed the owner, Liverpool Echo continues.

He was grateful to Ste, telling him that his home was recently broken into. Ste’s act of kindness brought a ray of sunshine into the man’s stressful ordeal. After gaining some publicity, he was offered a free bike from the bike and auto store Halford’s.
