The quote “A dog is a man’s best friend” is true in many cases. But for some, that love is never given. A lot of dogs are abandoned by families they trusted. They are often left afraid and alone. Thankfully, there is a man named Sasha Pesic in Nis, Serbia who has been willing to help and show love to over 750 stray dogs for the past decade. Here is his story.

The Problem He Saw

Sasha, who lives in Serbia, noticed there were numerous dogs roaming around his neighborhood. Over a period of time, he realized there were hundreds of them. He knew that some were being killed in shelters because there wasn’t enough room for them all to stay. He also understood that those on the street were starving and living in poor conditions.

The Solution He Created

Sasha decided to take things into his own hands. With some help, he built a sanctuary for all the dogs he found, according to this YouTube video. This place has plenty of room for each dog to run, play, and sleep. It has mud puddles for them to splash in, fields of grass to run across, and trees for them to rest in the shade to get out of the sun for a while.

He enjoys kicking a ball around with the dogs, running along with them, and spraying water on them with a garden hose. Sasha also has a big fluffy animal he lets the dogs play and chew on. He even has the tools and equipment necessary to help dogs that have disabilities.

He and his crew upkeep the land daily so the dogs won’t hurt themselves. The sanctuary spends $15 a month for each dog, according to Harmony Fund's YouTube channel, making sure they have other toys to play with, plenty of water to drink, and food to eat. Sasha recently started a Patreon and YouTube channel for his sanctuary, too.

All the work he’s doing is to prepare each dog for someone who wants to truly take care of them and provide a loving, caring home. Until then, Sasha is more than happy to feed, play with, and nurture them for the time being.

Conclusion

Sasha's love for these hundreds of dogs is truly inspiring. There aren’t a lot of people who have the patience to care for so many animals. Thankfully, for these dogs, they now know the meaning of love, happiness, and safety.
