Pregnancy is a unique and joyful time for mothers, but it isn't always butterflies and rainbows. The experience of pregnancy differs from mother to mother; for some women, it is a breeze while for others, it is filled with health issues that cause anxiety. Either way, all parents waiting for their baby know that when the time for birth comes, it is a joyful and delightful event.

However, the experience of being pregnant is unique to women. Men cannot carry a child, so all the difficulties associated with pregnancy are always undertaking by the mom. This is not to say that men do not experience the emotions of becoming a parent, of course, but the bodily changes a woman goes through are quite taxing, especially as the pregnancy progresses through the months.

One man decided to see just how challenging it can be to have a pregnant body. Assuming that it must not be that hard, Australian internet personality Maitland Hanley used watermelons to simulate pregnancy and filmed himself to show other people what a woman goes through. It may have started off as a joke for Hanley, but the video was quite informative nonetheless as it showed how difficult pregnancy can be to handle.

Hanley attempted daily tasks such as putting on shoes and driving to get some food but could barely manage to complete it all. He simulated the pregnancy by cling wrapping a watermelon around his stomach and used two smaller watermelons on his chest. As seen in the video, even getting out of bed seemed to be a challenge.

The Independent reported that a woman gains around 20 pounds on average during pregnancy, and Hanley used a watermelon that weighed around the same to recreate being pregnant. However, he could not maneuver even getting out of bed as the day started. His video has been viewed over 15 million times since it has been uploaded, and has resonated with women across the world.

After waking up, he is later seen trying to stand up after lying down on the floor. However, he finds it impossible to do so without rolling onto his front before his partner tells him "you can’t lay on your baby like that."

Hanley also has other videos of him performing different tasks on his TikTok feed, such as getting into a car, performing push-ups, getting into and out of a bathtub, and going to a McDonald's to satisfy his "pregnancy" cravings. As he struggled to do all of these tasks, Hanley admitted that he "thought it would be so much easier."

Many women took to his video to comment about their own experiences. One woman wrote, "Okay so now add another watermelon...I was pregnant with twins and had to stop driving at 30 weeks because I couldn’t fit behind the wheel." Another woman added, "Men don’t realise it’s like having a large basketball attached to you, it’s not all squishy," referring to Hanley trying to get up off the floor.

However, Hanley did find one perk of the pregnancy: his bump could be used as a makeshift table to balance his snacks! One woman commented about this, "A pregnant belly is a great table. [Until] bub decides to kick and you wear your drink."

Hanley is a social media influencer and also sells his own merchandise which is called "Young and Dumb" according to Global News Wire. In an interview with the news site, Hanley opened up about how he became the public figure he is today.

Hanley said, "For about 2 years I lived and worked in a place called Ayers  Rock which is literally in the middle of the desert and I had a lot of spare time. I’ve always had a weird imagination and an inability to just relax so when I would finish work I would start other projects (one of which was filming and editing videos). It started off as a little hobby and I loved seeing what I could create, now it’s turned into a full-time business, go figure."

Hanley also explained that his revenue for making videos had been dropping due to businesses not buying as many ads, which inspired him to create his merchandise line. Now that he has a substantial following, he was also asked what he believed his big break was, to which he responded,

"To be honest, I don’t believe in a ‘big break’, I’ve been working hard for over 3 years to get to where I am today and it’s been a slow and steady  grind with ups and many downs. It’s just about showing up and putting in the work when others aren’t willing to."

As for how he maintains his image on social media, Hanley said, "I create constant goals for myself weekly, monthly and yearly so I’m always chasing bigger and better things and never getting too comfortable."
