Man Asks If He's Wrong For Disturbing His Plane Seatmate By Taking Frequent Bathroom Trips

When planning to go on a trip, it’s always important to make a checklist of must-haves, especially if a plane ride is required to get to the destination, since it can be hard to go back in case you forget them. And if you’re the type who gets hungry or thirsty from time to time, it’s better to bring food and water for you since it can be expensive if you buy one at the airport or the plane. Of course, it’s important to drink moderately as it could force you to go to the bathroom from time to time. For those seated in the aisle, they might consider it an inconvenience for them, especially if you are seated in the middle or window seat.

One man took to Reddit to ask whether it was wrong to drink water several times throughout the flight, which resulted in a total of four bathroom breaks. The person seated on the aisle had to wake up more than once because of it.

In the man’s defense, he was afraid to be dehydrated since the flight was three hours long, saying he read somewhere that flying on a plane can dehydrate a person twice compared to normal circumstances.

“I packed two 40oz water bottles and planned to drink both of them over the course of the flight (should note I’m a pretty big person and an athlete),” the man said.

The man said he booked a middle seat because he had no other option since it was flying on a budget. Throughout the course of the flight, the man had to use the bathroom not once, not twice, but four times. It resulted in the woman seated on the aisle feeling irritated.

“Each time, the person sitting on the aisle got progressively annoyed. She was sleeping and I woke her up each time. She would sigh, groan, roll her eyes, etc whenever I got up. When I used the bathroom for the third time, she asked me if I could try to hold it for the remainder of the flight so she could sleep,” the man said.

The man also argued that it was 4 in the afternoon when the woman said she wanted to fall asleep. But the man went on drinking throughout the flight. When the man got up the fourth time, the woman told him he was rude.

“I told her it was either that, dehydrate, or wet myself and going to the bathroom seemed like the best option. She told me no one needs to drink enough to pee four times in less than three hours unless they have a bladder issue,” the man told the woman.

When the woman asked the man asked if he had bladder issues. He then responded by asking the woman to switch seats instead.

“I said no, not that that’s your business. I asked if she wanted to switch seats so I didn't have to climb over her, but she refused,” the man remarked.

So, what the man did was call a flight attendant to weigh in on their case. The flight attendant sided with the former.

“Some said I did nothing wrong, and that I have the right to drink water and I’m not breaking rules, but others said it was discourteous to drink that much water during s flight and that I should be able to hold it, especially if the person on the aisle is sleeping,” the man ended his post.

Most people are calling him out for what he did. One person argued that it would never cause harm to anyone who chooses not to drink within a three-hour flight.

“Three hours on a plane isn't going to dehydrate you enough to harm you,” the person said.

The same person added by saying the man should buy an aisle seat next time to avoid inconvenience to others. It also addressed the concern of the other passenger wanting to sleep in the middle of the flight.

“If you plan on doing this on your next flight, pay for the aisle seat or get ready to have another p***** off seat mate,” the person said.“Also as far as her wanting to sleep, it doesn't matter what time of day it is. Some people don't fly well and they sleep to help get through the flight,” they added.

Another person called the man’s move “ridiculous,” saying it was too much for a short flight and unnecessary.
“Once or twice, sure. But 4 times in 3 hours is ridiculous. You should have booked an aisle seat if you planned on drinking an insane amount of water during the short flight,” the person said.

Someone called out the man’s argument about supposedly being dehydrated false, pointing out why it wasn’t true.

“80oz of water is an obscene amount to drink on a 3-hour flight. How were you not clued into this by the fact that you kept having to pee? If you're drinking enough that you have to evacuate it, you're not dehydrated lol,” the person said.
