Mama Leopard Interrupts Traffic To Teach Cubs To Cross Road

A leopard mother and her two cubs were spotted crossing a road in Kruger National Park. The rare footage was posted on the Kruger Sightings YouTube channel on April 21.

It starts out with mom going out on to the road by herself to show her babies how it's done. Once she gets to the middle of the road, she turns toward the bushes where she left her cubs who are watching her as if to tell them, "see, it's that easy. It's safe here."

After scouting the road, Mom then heads back to lead her cubs to the other side. She surveys for moving cars on the road, looking right, left, and right again, before deciding it's okay to cross.

One of the lucky witnesses, Thinus Delport, tells Latest Sightings of the excitement to have been able to witness such a rare sighting:

“Early morning, my daughters and I left the camp looking for leopards. They were convinced that there are no leopards in the Kruger, as neither of them had ever seen one."

“This was an extremely rare sighting, and you don’t often get to see a leopard mother relocate her cubs when they are still so young," he added. "We’ve been visiting the Kruger for over 50 years, and not once have we seen something like this. This just came to show that patience really does pay off.”

However, that wasn't all. One of the baby leopards decided halfway that it would not like to go to the other side of the road after all. The little one started squealing in protest and turns to head back to where they had come from.

Mom had no time for her cub's drama. Getting off the road is the number one priority. She picks her baby up by its scruff but not before looking right into the camera. Her gaze is piercing and her beauty really shines here. If you look closely, it looks like she's raising one eyebrow as if to say, "what are you looking at?"
