Cats aren’t the only animals that star in videos. Windemere Farms in Pennsylvania posted a video of one of their show horses, Bentley, romping and playing in the new snow last January. Even if you're not a horse lover, this might make you one.

Throughout the video, Bentley the horse runs and bucks. He sometimes rears, and he sometimes paws at the snow. Amusingly, he will sometimes kneel on all fours in what looks like an attempt to create the equine version of snow angels. He will also sometimes roll around in the snow. It is very obvious that he is having fun, as are the two dogs running around the perimeter of Bentley’s paddock.

Even for a show horse, Bentley is an impressive specimen. He is large and solid black, except for a small white star on his head, and thus stands out against the snowy landscape.

Bentley is a Percheron, a breed of horse that originated in France; its ancestors have been traced back to at least the 17th century. Percherons were originally war horses and thus bred for their size and strength. A large male can be over 18 hands (six feet) tall and weigh around a ton. While Percherons are usually gray or black, they can come in other colors. They are known for their intelligence, good dispositions, and willingness to work.

Windemere Farms describes Bentley as the best stallion produced by his sire Moose. He has won a number of prizes in horse shows and has himself sired a number of horses who inherited his impressive good looks and willingness to learn during training. Bentley’s dam is a mare named Yasmine who has borne many other prize-winning horses. Bentley thus comes from very good stock and has already produced offspring to carry on his family’s legacy.

Windemere Farms, which is located in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania, was established nearly 60 years ago in 1962. It was originally a dairy farm, but its owners, Abraham and Mary Allebach, decided to start breeding Percherons, their website describes. At first, they simply wanted horses that could pull wagons or sleighs to give people rides – and then they got bitten by the horse show bug and elected to breed horses that could compete in shows. Over the decades, Windemere Farm has produced dozens of prize-winning horses, including Bentley.

Windemere Farms has a Facebook page, which is where they originally posted their video of Bentley playing in the snow. In their post, they described themselves as “caretakers of these magnificent creatures” and felt thankful to have seen Bentley’s obvious delight while romping in the snow.

Many of their followers posted comments about Bentley’s impressive good looks; they called him “spectacular” and “magnificent.” At least one commented that it seemed like Bentley could run for miles. Another was stunned to see Bentley roll over completely, as large horses usually don’t do that. Everybody seemed to enjoy the video.
