Mail Carrier Stops To Make Delivery And Is Swarmed By Group Of Kids Dressed Just Like Him

A neighborhood in south Boston, Massachusetts, coordinated a special surprise for their UPS delivery driver. In October of 2020, mother and south Boston resident Lisa Kennedy purchased UPS uniform costumes for her children and many of her neighbors did the same. When their local package delivery driver, Kevin Lounsbury, showed up on their street, an entire swarm of little UPS workers rushed out to greet him.

Lounsbury was taken aback by the gesture and looked so surprised and touched in a video Kennedy posted to her Facebook page. All he could say at first was “Oh my god” as he took in the gratitude from these families. A total of seven young children and one dog dressed up to surprise the person that brought them joy throughout a difficult year. Kennedy said that every time Lounsbury stopped to deliver a package he would smile at the children and honk the horn of his truck as a greeting.

After rushing over to greet Lounsbury and showing off their outfits, the children stopped to pose for a picture with their favorite delivery driver in front of his truck. Kennedy said she just wanted to show her appreciation for Lounsbury's hard work and kindness and to try and put a smile on his face.

It is touching to see a group of people go out of their way to show gratitude and make someone’s day. Lounsbury looked extremely happy after seeing the children dressed up like him. Hopefully, he now realizes the impact his kindness had on these families.

Lounsbury has been instrumental in helping these families keep their homes stocked during the pandemic. Kennedy shared the photo of the kids and Lounsbury together on her Facebook page, WHDH Boston reports. Her post read, “Of course he brings us all our essentials, but he also brings so much joy and excitement to these little faces. He greets us every night with a beep and smile. Tonight we wanted to show Kevin how much he means to us all.”

Another parent, Amanda Harper, commented on Kennedy’s post. “We always see Kevin when we are walking up your street back from school. He stops and talks to the kids,” she wrote. It is so heartwarming to know that someone just doing their job would go out of their way to be kind to children.

Kennedy explained to the WHDH Boston news team exactly how Lounsbury’s service gave the children something to look forward to. “Every single time he’d come down the street – the kids have been cooped up inside all day — he’d just give a little toot on the horn and it just brought excitement to all the kids’ days,” she said. Little gestures like that go a long way with children, especially when they have been stuck indoors.

With his exceptional attitude, Lounsbury is making a good reputation for all UPS drivers. “My 2-year-old daughter thinks that all UPS drivers are Kevin, so every time she sees a UPS car on the road she’ll start screaming ‘there’s Kevin, there’s Kevin,'” said another local mother, Heather Cosgrove. That must be a hilarious and adorable sight to see.

Kennedy spoke out about why she wanted to execute this surprise for Lounsbury. “He knows how much we love him but I think just making that extra effort really just touched him and made him realize how much of an impact he’s made on all the kids and all of us during all this time,” she shared

Lounsbury seemed overcome with joy, and in the video, he can be heard exclaiming, “This is so awesome!” He was clearly touched by the expression of thankfulness. “Absolute highlight of my career,” Lounsbury wrote on his Facebook page.

Lounsbury’s Facebook friends were impressed with him and the recognition he received. “Kevin, you and your helpers look awesome. I am so happy for all, as it seems like you are having a good time with the kids. Sorry I didn’t see you on TV. Keep it up, the kids really like you,” one person commented on his post.

“It’s going viral,” one of the parents can be heard saying in the video. And it definitely did go viral, reaching the attention of several news teams, spreading the word about Lounsbury's exceptional attitude and work ethic. Kennedy said she hoped the coverage would help Lounsbury get a raise.

Lounsbury went above and beyond at his job, and it is clear that these families really care about him. It seems they succeeded in their goal of making him smile and his story has now been shared across the country. Showing appreciation to essential workers during this time is a good way to spread joy and kindness to others.
