Pop icon Madonna has defied the odds and broken boundaries throughout her multi-decade-long career. She is a singer, performer and pop culture icon. Madonna has given us plenty of hits, defining the course of pop music and ultimately giving her the moniker the "Queen of Pop."

Madonna was born on Aug. 16, 1958, making her 64 years old today. Originally from Michigan, the aspiring star moved to New York City in the late 1970s to pursue a career in dance before finally finding success as a solo singer. She has since released a plethora of No. 1 hits, including "Like a Virgin," "Like a Prayer" and "Vogue," among many others.

Besides serving rocking tunes, the icon has also been serving great looks. Known for her eclectic taste in fashion and penchant for reinvention, Madonna has pushed the envelope throughout the years. Though not all her fashion and beauty choices have garnered favor, she always gained praise for her courage to take risks.

With each new era, Madonna has proven that she has the ability to constantly reinvent herself, something that has ultimately helped her career trajectory. Defying the odds as always, Madonna is still following her own path like she's done since she first catapulted to fame.

Now, in her 60s, she actively speaks out about what it’s like to be a woman with regard to aging, especially in the entertainment industry. While she's made it her mission to challenge the unfair expectations and double standards placed on women as they age, there's no denying Madonna is also in incredibly good shape, and it's all down to a combination of physical exercise, healthy eating and beauty treatments.

Staying Fit

Considering Madonna got her start as a dancer, it's no surprise that physical exercise and regular movement are incredibly important to her. Famous for her various types of workouts over the years – including everything from aerobics, interval training, pilates, yoga and dancing, to name a few — Madonna works her body hard.

“I’ve always danced and exercised ... I like keeping things interesting, shocking my body," she said, as reported by Life & Style.

The singer even shocks her friends by inviting them to her workout sessions to "test them." Unsurprisingly, many can't keep up: “Sometimes they end up going to the bathroom and puking,” she quipped. Among her favorite workouts is Ashtanga yoga, which she described as "much more physical than other types of yoga. It’s kind of like dancing."

The star has made it clear she has to work hard to look the way she does:

“I wasn’t born with Gisele Bündchen’s body. So you gotta work for it."

Eating A Balanced Diet

The other half of looking and feeling great physically is diet. Madonna has followed a macrobiotic diet for a long time, which includes loading up on vegetables like kale, pumpkin, carrots and broccoli, eating plenty of nuts and beans, and sticking to fish as a main protein source. Health foods like seaweed and spirulina also come into play, as they're packed with nutrients.

Madonna's personal trainer revealed she has times when she doesn't drink alcohol, and instead prefers healthy teas like ginger and yerba, as well as a lot of coconut water. In fact, in 2010, she invested in Vita Coco, a coconut water brand, which is now worth over $750 million.

Professional Beauty Treatments

Celebrities are no strangers to beauty treatments, and Madonna has shown she isn't afraid to try out new and trendy offerings. In 2018 she generated buzz for a short video she posted to social media that showed her getting a facial with the use of multiple forks — yes, as in the cutlery. In the video, Madonna said: “It’s amazing, look at this little facial happening with a fork. Forks are really good, they tighten the skin." However, the bizarre trend was debunked on an episode of "The Doctors," as one physician revealed it was actually a Snapchat filter.

Nevertheless, Madonna isn't afraid of quirky treatments. Her facialist, Edyta Jarosz, told Vogue that Oxygen Infusion treatments and DiamondGlow facials work wonders. Jarosz said the latter is "the perfect pre-event treatment with instant results: skin hydration and luminosity that lasts days."

Hydration Is Key

Jarosz also spoke about the importance of skin hydration in achieving a youthful glow. She recommends using a vitamin C serum and layering your products from thinnest to thickest — a common technique in multistep Asian skincare routines.

Young At Heart

Perhaps surprisingly, Madonna's last secret is purely mental. It's been said that one can't truly be young unless one feels young, and it seems Madonna is a big fan of this approach. Frequently asked about aging in interviews, Madonna shut down a New York Times reporter who kept bringing up the topic in a 2019 interview:

“I think you think about growing old too much. I think you think about age too much. I think you should just stop thinking about it. ... Stop thinking, just live your life, and don’t be influenced by society trying to make you feel some type of way about your age or what it is you’re supposed to be doing."
