Ed Sheeran is an English singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt lyrics, soulful voice and unique blend of acoustic and electronic sounds. Born on Feb. 17, 1991, in Halifax, West Yorkshire, Sheeran began playing the guitar at a young age and quickly developed a passion for music.

Sheeran's early musical influences included Irish folk music and hip-hop, which he listened to while performing in local venues around his hometown. After moving to London to pursue a career in music, he began playing in small clubs and recording demos, which led to him being discovered by Jamie Foxx.

In 2011, Sheeran released his debut album, "+," which showcased his signature style of combining acoustic guitar and electronic beats with his poignant and introspective lyrics. The album's lead single, "The A Team," became a massive hit and earned him international recognition.

Over the years, Sheeran has continued to release chart-topping albums and singles, including "x," "÷," and "No. 6 Collaborations Project," which featured collaborations with popular artists such as Justin Bieber, Cardi B and Bruno Mars

Perhaps one of the most popular songs he has released ever was his 2017 hit “Dive,” which debuted at number eight on the UK Billboard Charts and number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

A version of the song was recorded by Grammy-nominated singer Luke Combs in 2018, which has given the song much more appeal in the country music genre. In that same year, when Combs was performing in a concert in Ireland, his gig was crashed by a special artist whose heart was close to the song — none other than Sheeran himself.

Read on to learn more about Combs and Sheeran's performance and the reactions of their fans to their lovely duet.

Combs is one of the most highly sought-out newer country music performers of our current time. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, Combs was a football player when he attended AC Reynolds Highschool and became part of multiple vocal groups.

Notably, as a child, he performed a solo at Carnegie Hall. He then attended Appalachian State University, where he worked as a bar bouncer while also working onstage as a performer. He then dropped out in his senior year to further pursue his country music career in Nashville, Tennessee.

In 2017, Combs released his debut album, “This One’s For You,” which launched at number four on the Billboard 200 albums chart, cementing his breakthrough in the music industry.

Combs has already earned two Grammy Award nominations, two iHeart Radio music awards, four Academy of Country Music Awards and six Country Music Association Awards, including the Entertainer of the Year Award in 2021 and 2022.

That is why when he took the stage at UK’s Country to Country Festival in London in 2022, everyone was cheering for him when he performed Sheeran’s song “Dive” in front of thousands of festivalgoers.

“We usually do this solo acoustic,” Combs recalled, introducing the song, as quoted by Rolling Stone.” “We wanted the band to be over here and do this thing, and so, this is a cover song that we recorded a few years ago.”

But as Combs sang the song's second verse, Sheeran, the original singer of the song, surprised the crowd with a special appearance, and assisted Combs with the entirety of the song.

Described by Billboard as one of the "most passionate vocal strains” of the album “÷,” “Dive” is a fan favorite by many Sheeran fans all over the world.

“Hanging on the words you say, and I've been known to give my all. And jumping in harder than ten thousand rocks on the lake,” Sheeran sang. "So don't call me baby unless you mean it, Don't tell me you need me if you don't believe it. So let me know the truth before I dive right into you."

In Combs’ version of the song, he definitely added his own country spin to it, making both his own and Sheeran’s fans love the track more.

Just as Sheeran appeared from the stage, the crowd erupted into a cheer, which had the two singers and the band more thrilled to perform.

“I love the way Ed wrote and recorded Dive but there's something about the way Luke and his band perform the song that make it enchanting,” a fan pointed out.

“I can't stop watching this. Every single little thing about this collaboration is perfect. Luke's voice, obviously Ed's voice. Their excitement to be singing with each other. Them sharing a drink from the red solo cup at the end. It's just perfect,” another noted.

Some of the fans have even asked the two artists to collaborate on a song or even record an album together.

“If they ever made a full album together, the music world would implode. Listening to their voices, with earphones and a glass of ice cold whiskey is probably exactly what heaven feels,” someone suggested.

Combs posted photos of the Ireland concert performance on his Instagram account the following night after his surprise number with Sheeran.
