Luke Bryan Sees 18-Year-Old Dog Abandoned Because Of Allergies, Adopts Him Immediately

It's no secret that Luke Bryan loves animals. He and his wife, Caroline, built an ever-expanding sanctuary farm that is home to ponies, pigs, chickens, llamas and kangaroos. Luke and Caroline recently welcomed another furry addition to their home: An 18-year-old dog named Poochie.

Poochie, an 18-year-old Aussie mix, was surrendered to a Nashville animal shelter by his owner. The senior dog was terrified, and it was clear he didn't have much time left. Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue stepped in to find Poochie a loving home to live out his final days at.

“We are so thrilled for Poochie and know he is in great hands,” Lavonne Redferrin, the animal rescue’s director and founder, told People magazine. “Caroline Bryan has graciously given us updates on our sweet boy.”

The animal rescue posted Poochie's story on social media. They received an adoption request from the Bryan family and knew they were the perfect family for Poochie.

Poochie was loving life at his new home. He had a warm bed to sleep in, plenty of affection from his new human family and fields he could explore safely. For a few weeks, Poochie was living the life he had always deserved.

Sadly, Poochie passed away two weeks after being adopted. Caroline took to Instagram to share the sad news with her followers. She wrote that dogs would outlive every single one of us if the kindest of souls were given the longest lives.

Poochie died in his sleep on a warm, comfy bed. He knew love for his last days on this planet. For that, we can all be thankful.

Sweet Poochie was buried on the farm with the other pets that the Bryan family has lost throughout the years.

Luke and Caroline Bryan are all too familiar with loss. They lost their niece, Sadie Brett, in 2017 to a congenital heart defect. She was only 7 months old.

The shelter also paid tribute to Poochie on their Facebook page:

“Poochie enjoyed his time with the Bryan family. He even felt well enough to stroll in their pastures and be a dog again. He sadly passed away a few days ago, but he was loved and passed in his sleep on a big comfy bed. He is now buried on the Bryan farm amid other beloved pets.”

When Sadie Brett was alive, Caroline promised to buy her a white pony. That promise is what inspired Caroline and Luke to open a sanctuary farm. They named the sanctuary Brett's Barn, in honor of Sadie Brett.

There are thousands of senior dogs waiting to find a forever home. Check out this list of no-kill shelters if you're interested in adoption. Tag your friends, and help us honor the life of Poochie the dog.
