Dogs strive to protect those they love. Love doesn't only extend to human companions. Canines often serve and protect fellow animals. A tale out of Washington state proves this to be true.
A reddish-brown dog named Tillie didn't abandon her friend Phoebe, a small dog trapped in a demolished old cistern. Cisterns usually as grave-like traps to capture rainwater. Tillie fell into the cistern and was not able to reach the ledge to get out. Thankfully, a large pile of broken rubble allowed her to avoid drowning in the water.

Tillie knew her friend wasn't going to last long in this situation. So, she ran for help.
Unfortunately, dogs can't talk but they can try to get the attention of humans. Hopefully, someone would pay attention to this dog's distressful behavior and act accordingly.
Vashon Island Pet Protectors (VIPP) were out looking for the two missing dogs but weren't having any luck finding them. Lucky, a homeowner did call them up to report a dog that kept coming to the house and then running off to a ravine. The rescue volunteers appeared at the house to investigate the story about the reddish-brown haired dog and its curious behavior.
The volunteers went to the ravine to seek out the strange dog. They heard the sounds of barking and traveled in its direction. Soon, Tillie and suffering Phoebe were found.
Now, both are safe and home again.
