Loving Grandfather Builds Mind-Blowing Room For His Grandchild With Autism

People with special needs deserve not only attention but all the love in the world. That means going beyond merely providing them with their daily needs but also giving them a unique kind of experience that will make their life more colorful. As long as it comes from the heart, it doesn't matter whether it's as simple as making a handcrafted toy or simply showing kindness and creating meaningful conversations. For one loving grandfather who has an autistic grandson, it's creating a space where his grandchild will feel safe.

In December 2022, a grandfather took to a Reddit thread where people could get support for autism parenting to share a video of a room he built for his three-year-old grandchild.

"So my grandson was in need of a Safety bed. I didn't like what I could find or the prices so I built him one. Thought I'd share," he wrote in the caption of the video, where he can be seen showing how the simply box-like bed can transform into a whole room that takes people into an entirely different world.

The grandfather revealed the reason behind his decision to build the mind-blowing design, saying he made sure that his grandson's room was an experience in itself that would take him to a whole new place without feeling scared at all.

The grandfather said it has a twin-size mattress fully padded inside a wrestling mat. It also a fully adjustable lighting that can do any color at any brightness of his liking. To make sure he can look after his grandson's safety even though he is not near him, he also installed dual monitoring cameras.

They also no longer need to worry about ventilation as it has a reversible airflow fan at the tip with temperature monitoring at different levels.

It also has a lock inside, so his grandchild doesn't need to worry, or panic should it get locked in the future. Plus, it's got viewing windows on both ends, giving his grandchild a view outside of his bed.

To top it all off, it also has an integrated Bluetooth system which means they can play his favorite songs without them invading his space.

"And hey, he likes it and is going right to sleep and loves playing in it. His first introduction to it he actually cried when he had to come out for dinner," the grandfather said.

One person asked the grandfather:

"What's reason behind those features? I know nothing about this."

To which he responded with:

"So he needs to be locked in. And safety requires a rescuer be able to get him out easily."

Meanwhile, the grandfather explained the rest of the features, including the lighting, the music, and the padding.

"Lighting is just another tool to help him find calm and restful. Music, especially with a heavy beat often calms him when he is upset. It can also produce white noise or anything else. Just another tool for his peace. The padding is because part of him and his condition, he will bang his head on things. He self harms at times," he explained.

The grandfather said the purpose really all boils down to making his grandchild's life easier and more peaceful.

When people found out about his reasons for building a safety bed for his grandchild, several people said they wished they could buy one for their kids too. The grandfather said he would consider building some: "I'd like to help people and make life for these kids just a bit easier and more fun."
