We’re told from a young age that if we find a career we love, we’ll never work a day in our lives. When you enjoy what you do, it never feels like a hassle to go to your job. One special bus driver gives this expression entirely new meaning by spreading joy to everyone that she encounters.

The bus driver’s name is Arletha Sherman, and her career means more to her than just transporting kids back and forth from school and home. Every Monday through Friday, Arletha happily gets on her bus and looks forward to meeting and greeting all of the passengers she has the pleasure of commuting with. But when she heard about one special little girl’s birthday, she knew she had to plan a unique surprise to make the girl’s day.

The student’s name is Anna Hopson, and the young girl has a unique story. While she attends pre-kindergarten at her school called Sabal Palm Elementary, she’s also dealing with some ongoing health concerns. Anna was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which has confined her to a wheelchair for the past six months.

The disease is degenerative, meaning that she has progressive nerve damage as well as declining muscle tissue. But when Anna’s fifth birthday was upcoming, her loving bus driver Arletha wanted to do something special for the optimistic little girl.

While waiting for the bus on her birthday, Anna was surprised when Arletha pulled up to her home with a special princess gown and tiara for her to wear. But that wasn’t the only gift waiting for Anna. Toys, hair clips, and something even more special awaited the strong girl.

The inside of her bus was adorned with ‘happy birthday’ decorations and even some streamers in different colors! The little girl was excited and felt so special on her big day after seeing the surprises Arletha had in store for her.

Obviously, Anna’s parents were very grateful to the bus driver who went above and beyond to give their daughter an amazing start to her day. Arletha admits that the little girl holds a special place in her heart because although she deals with struggles, she never complains and remains optimistic.
