Lost Kansas Dog Walks 50 Miles to Her Previous Home in Missouri — Leaves Owners Astounded

Cleo, a four-year-old labrador, left her owners speechless after walking over 50 miles back to their old home in Missouri. Cleo, who went missing in July of 2020, found her way back to the home her family had moved out of two years ago in Lawson, Missouri instead of to their new and current residence in Olathe, Kansas.

Waiting...

The new owners of the Lawson home were stunned to find a dog sitting comfortably on their front porch when they got home. The Labrador was unbothered by their presence and kept laying there as though she was waiting for somebody. Colton Michael and his wife were sure she could not be a stray because he was well-groomed. They tried to look for a collar, but they couldn't see one, although Michael told local news outlet WKRG, "She would not let us quite come near her."

When Michael finally earned Cleo's trust, they had her scanned for a microchip and found one with her owner's name, according to WKRG.

"That's when my wife pointed out that their last name was the same last name as the previous owner of the house," Michael told CNN when asked how they were able to make a connection.

The couple then looked up the name on Facebook and was glad to find that Drew and his family had been posting about their missing dog earlier in the week.

Cleo's Owner Comes To Pick Her Up

Michael went ahead and contacted them,

"I told him that we found his dog, but once I told him where we were, he was speechless," reported CNN.

Cleo's owner is shocked that the dog traveled at least 57 miles from her current home in Kansas to her former home in Missouri. According to Michael, "That's a hike for anybody."

Neither of them will ever understand how she made it home, considering there were only two dangerous ways she could have used. One is a bridge that is always busy with traffic, and the other one involved crossing a river.

She's Not The Only One

Cleo's story is not the first of its kind. In 2013, a cat called Maggie marvel Holly fled from Daytona Beach, Florida, after being scared by fireworks. She was on vacation with her owners. Jacob Richter 70, and his wife Bonnie, 63, as The Mirror reports After a long search, they gave up and went back home, heartbroken.

They were stunned when the cat showed up at their garden after about 63 days, very hungry, worn down, and have lost weight. Her paws had been worn down from all the walking.

Jacob described the experience,

"It was like losing a child. She'd become part of my life; not a pet but a family member."

Dr. Sara Beg, the cat's vet, was stunned how she had made it home. She said,

"Maybe its intuition, scent, or following the sun; there's no consensus on how or why."

Back to Cleo

Drew said that no matter how or why she had made the trip, he was glad to have her back. He told KMBC TV,

"It is the most bizarre story. It feels really good to be reunited with her. She is everything to us."

And Michael finished off saying,

"Now that we know who she belongs to, if she pops up again, we know who to call."
