Lost Deer Fawn Wandered Onto Porch And Befriended Cat

Miro the cat makes an unlikely friend when a baby fawn wanders onto the porch of his owner's house. Jim Hausman, who captured the video decided that the fawn was likely less than 48 hours old because it was still learning how to walk properly. Hausman's cat Miro surely has a good time getting to know this newborn fawn.

Sometimes, a cat will decide he wants to make a new friend—and his attempts are the sweetest thing to watch.

This video tells the story of Miro the cat when he met a fawn on his front porch.

The fawn’s mother had likely left her baby there to keep him safe while she went looking for food. Fawns become motionless as a defense mechanism when alone, so the newcomer was crouched on the porch. His stillness must have been extremely bizarre to Miro.

Determined to make the fawn move, Miro began to walk in circles around him. He sniffed and peered at him; we imagine it was like a game of “don’t blink.” The fawn, loyal to his nature, remained in that defensive crouch.

Finally, Miro decided to lay down on the porch next to the fawn. We don’t know if he did it because of exhaustion, or if perhaps he was trying to mimic the fawn. They both sat still for a long time, and the resulting images were beautiful scenes of friendship—even if the two hadn’t talked much.

Eventually, the fawn left with his mother, but luckily we have these images to show how stubborn a cat can be when he or she wants something. Of course, cat owners already know all about that; if your cat hasn’t stretched out on your laptop while you were working, is it really a cat?

If only we all had Miro’s persistence in trying to befriend the scared new guy. Even if it doesn’t work out, we all have plenty of love to spare for the person who doesn’t know how to reach out, or can’t.
