Lori Loughlin & Mossimo Giannulli Ask Judge To Approve Trip To Mexico After Prison Release

May 18, 2021 by apost team

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli asked a court judge in May 2021 for permission to travel to Mexico in June since they had both completed their prison sentences. The two paid off the fines they owed and almost met their community service requirements that they were assigned regarding their roles in the college admissions bribery scandal that came to light in 2019.

The couple has been married since 1997 and started a family together consisting of two daughters, Olivia Jade Giannulli, 21, and Isabella Rose Giannulli, 22. Loughlin and Giannulli worked with William “Rick” Singer to help get their daughters into the University of Southern California through bribery. They paid him a large sum of money by pretending to donate to his organization, the Key Worldwide Foundation, to then have Singer pay the college off in return for admitting the two daughters.

The couple’s scandal was revealed in 2019, along with plenty of other wealthy celebrities and business moguls who allegedly committed a similar crime in what has become known as Operation Varsity Blues. A Netflix documentary titled “Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal” was released in March 2021 that provided more detail and reenactments, including a script created through actual wired phone calls captured by the FBI.

Loughlin and Giannulli both cooperated with the court process and pleaded guilty and have since done their part to make up for their crimes. They are now trying to travel outside of the country to have some quality time with their children, despite Gianulli still needing to complete his community service requirements.

While plenty of others have been given their own sentences and fines to pay, such as Loughlin and Giannulli, the man behind the college admissions bribery scandal has still not spent any time behind bars. Marie Claire reported in March 2021 that Singer was working as an informant for the FBI, which is why he had yet to receive any sentencing himself. He previously pleaded guilty in 2019 but will not be tried until he’s completed cooperating with the federal law enforcement agency.

People reported that Loughlin and Giannulli had filed court documents requesting to take a five-day trip to San Jose Del Cabo in June 2021 as a way to “spend time with [their] family.” Loughlin paid a $150,000 fine, while her husband paid a fine of $250,000. While Loughlin has already completed her community service requirement, Giannulli is still currently working on completing his.

According to People, “Loughlin admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud” back in May 2020. Giannulli pleaded guilty to the same count, as well as another count of honest service wire and mail fraud. They worked with Singer and Key Worldwide Foundation to get the University of Southern California to recruit Olivia and Isabella as part of the crew team, even though neither daughter ever engaged in the sport. People reported that they paid Singer $500,000 to help with bribing the college. According to the Charity Navigator, the Key Worldwide Foundation was a for-profit organization that provided underprivileged students with an education that would normally be unattainable to them.

Despite growing up in a wealthy family with plenty of resources and opportunities around them, the daughters had their way into college bought through their parents’ bribery methods. Olivia also had accumulated a fan base over the years as an influencer on YouTube, where she received sponsorships and even had her own makeup line with Sephora. Elle reported Olivia’s relationship with the makeup company ended in March 2019, around the time the college admissions scandal news made headlines.

The parents had a plea deal approved on Aug. 21, 2020, which resulted in Loughlin and Giannulli paying their fines and being assigned designated community service. According to People, Loughlin served 150 hours while her husband was sentenced to 250 hours. The couple also served time in federal prison, while Loughlin served a two-month sentence before being released in December 2020, while Gianulli served a five-month sentence. According to People, Giannulli was released from home confinement in April 2021, completing his time.

source revealed to People that Loughlin and Giannulli were “beyond relieved” to have completed their respective sentences. “Mossimo is, of course, happy to be done with the home confinement,” the source said. “Mossimo has to finish his community service, but then he can really move on.” The source explained how the parents “made huge mistakes” and are ready to move on. “They have taken responsibility for them and just want to start fresh now,” the source said.

Despite having made some detrimental mistakes in the past, Loughlin and Mossimo both completed the requirements they were sentenced to after pleading guilty in the college admissions bribery scandal. The couple is now ready to move forward with their lives and take a trip with their family to enjoy some quality time together.
