Full House actress Lori Loughlin has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges in the college admissions scandal. The not guilty plea could have serious repercussions for Loughlin if she loses. On the other hand, Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman has pleaded guilty along with several other parents in the wake of the scandal.

Loughlin along with Huffman is one of the highest profile figures entangled in the admissions scandal. Not only them but many other wealthy families, test administrators, even coaches are having to face charges. According to CNN, "prosecutors say some of the parents facilitated cheating on the SATs and ACTs on behalf of their children, and some parents bribed college coaches to smooth their children's path into college."

Court filings show Loughlin is pleading 'not guilty' to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Prosecutors claim Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli paid half a million dollars to a fake charity to have their two daughters accepted into the University of Southern California.

Huffman was also charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. However, her 'guilty' plea could now be exchanged for low jail time and no further charges being brought against her. She had been found to have paid $15,000 to a charity that facilitated helping her daughter cheat on her SATs. The actress released a statement that said,

"I am ashamed of the pain I have caused my daughter... I want to apologize to the students who work hard every day to get into college, and to their parents who make tremendous sacrifices to support their children and do so honestly."

Sources close to Loughlin told E! News, "She has been in complete denial and thought maybe she could skate by," the source explains. "She refused to accept any jail time and thought the DA was bluffing. She was adamant she wouldn't do any jail time." But after Loughlin was hit with the additional money laundering charge just a day after Huffman and the other parents agreed to plead guilty, we think it finally sank in for Loughlin that prosecutors are not holding back and will pursue to the fullest extent of the law. The source said that Loughlin is now finally seeing how serious this scandal is, and she is "freaking out."

If Loughlin is found guilty by a jury on the two counts she and her husband could be facing 20 years in jail per charge. But the couple believes the evidence presented in the trial will eventually exonerate them. A source close to the family told People

“Everyone has seen snippets of the evidence, but there’s a lot more out there, when you look at it in context, you can argue that this is a woman who didn’t understand exactly what she was doing," the source adds, "At this point, if she pleads guilty, she feels like the mitigating evidence will never see the light of day.”
