Looking Back At Sam Elliott's At His 5-Decade-Long Career

Sam Elliot got his first acting credit when he was only 25-years-old, he frequented western movies due to his cowboy charisma and deep, southern drawl.

When Elliot first set out to start his acting career he revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that his father said, "That kid doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell." Elliot said he used what his father said as a force to drive him to become successful in the industry. One of the first movies Elliot ever did was a small part in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” and from then he began picking up TV roles.

This role on Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” a pivotal moment for Elliott because he met his wife Katherine Ross, who is his partner to this day. Elliott has amassed over 100 acting credits throughout his career. Some of his biggest films include, "Hulk"(2003), "Ghost Rider,"(2007) "Thank You For Smoking,"(2006), "The Big Lebowski" (1998), and countless others according to Rotten Tomatoes. At 75-years-old the mustached-renowned actor is showing no signs of slowing down.  

In 2019, the 75-year-old was recognized for his work in “A Star Is Born” by being nominated for the best supporting actor Oscar. He didn’t take the prize that night but spoke to Deadline saying, “...it’s really about the work; it’s just about the creative process. It’s great to be recognized for that, that’s really all it’s about.”

From starting off in construction all the way up to an Oscar nomination. Sam Elliott might have struggled in his long career in Hollywood but the work has certainly paid off.
